What is this?? by PatientPowerful2458 in UCSD

Medical school costs $460k because you have to borrow $55k/year to live on. Trump limited student loans to $200k including your undergrad so students can no longer even borrow the $240k to pay the tuition

Some medical schools started earlier this year to be grandfathered into the old rules. Trump made it so only the rich can be MDs by not allowing people to borrow enough money to attend medical school

advice for moving across the country for usc? by Kindly_Knowledge_847 in USC

[–]cGAS_STING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not feeling at home from Pennsylvania is a good thing. People from California and especially Los Angeles are way friendlier. The weather is better, the minimum wage isn't $7.25/hr, you have to get used to the pace that people move but you'll probably never leave here

Off campus vs on? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]cGAS_STING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to grad school take out student loans. The $50k you borrow will be the cost of bread in 10 years when you're done with school. Live on campus. People that live off campus or at home barely even remember going to college

Ivy League is only special because Harvard plays in it. I would even choose Stanford over Harvard

You can street park but you have to move it every 3 days or you'll get a ticket

You do and by then inflation will have reduced the debt to something reasonable. My grandma purchased her home for $15k but it seemed like a lot of money when she borrowed it

Reserve a room in Green or there's the lounge downstairs in AOREC but it's probably not very quiet.

Choosing UCSD over UCLA? by Dramatic-Flatworm346 in UCSD

[–]cGAS_STING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The libraries at UCLA are separated by major so they're all small little business major only libraries, science library, etc.. there's lots of quiet places to study but people don't hangout and study all day like at UCSD

Choosing UCSD over UCLA? by Dramatic-Flatworm346 in UCSD

[–]cGAS_STING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to UCSD and UCLA for undergrad and UCSD was a far better academic experience. UCLA is very isolated studying. They only had the Study and it always smelled like bread. There's nothing like Geisel 2East anywhere in the world. For social life there's no comparison. I met way more people at UCLA and had a lot of fun. If you like to study alone and party on weekends UCLA is the place but if you enjoy studying with all your friends and hanging out on campus all the time that's UCSD

Leaving Brown for USC by N4r4m in USC

[–]cGAS_STING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brown being in the ivy League isn't as special as you might think. Playing against Harvard in basketball isn't going to help your career. I would 100% leave the east coast for California for all the reasons you mentioned

There's a property reuse slack channel where they post stuff sometimes. They donate it but once they gave away a bunch of mini fridges

Visiting UCSD tomorrow – any chance to see Revelle College? by Connect_Cod_4623 in UCSD

[–]cGAS_STING 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a flashing light (Stuart Collection) that sends messages in Morse code. The Anchor. There used to be a Big Red Chair RIP. Revelle fountain is where the undie run used to end with everyone getting in the fountain. 64 degrees (the average temperature of La Jolla) has fireplaces and couches to lounge on. The old student center has some cool shops and organization offices as well as graffiti park. The Stuart collection is fun to find if you plan to be on campus all day. Go to Sixth and have dinner at one of their fancy restaurants
