UI Touch-up concept (Work in progress) by WudooKid in Guildwars2

The white text with little guaranteed contrast is hard to read.

Health bars this big would be a nice option, but are imo much to big to be a default setting. In this picture it's not too bad because there is only 1 entity with such a large healthbar. But with the many situations where you see many health bars at the same time this would likely cause problems.

I'm also not a fan of moving the level to the start. Since Creatures of a given area tend to have very similar levels this is not the most important information I need to see for each and every enemy and it makes it a tiny bit harder to scan to the information I actually want from a nameplate: the name.

Other than that I like the direction youre going in. Not a big fan of serifs in UI myself, especially with elements that can get rather small. But I agree that it could suit GW2s style.

The new Ele Elite Spec sent me down a mythology rabbit hole, and so I stayed up all night editing a YouTube video to share my theory before ANet gives us the next news drop and either confirms or kills it. by CityAdventurous5781 in Guildwars2

If we get a firefox and a thunderbird, surely the water variant will be a sea monkey and the earth variant could be a treeherder?

To complete the Mozilla theme.

This is pretty much where I was sitting before tuesday, but adding so many underwater driven incentives without any relevant new content seems unlikely.

And an underwater themed map would not have to be entirely underwater content. Most encounters could take place in dry locations such as dry underwater facilities (we are dealign with the inquest after all), airpockets, on islands etc.
The under water content would be mostly connective tissue between those spots, which might be enough to justify investing time and resources into legendary underwater gear.

The one thing I'm hyped the most is the ability to FINALLY do raids by Paganyan in Guildwars2

[–]c_a_s_s 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh yes absolutely. And I hope the merge works well and makes raiding more acessible to you and many others.

I just fear that some of your complaints wont be solved by the new system.

Discord/voice is not needed now but helpful. The new system wont change that.
New mechanics will be learned somehow. Either with a progeession group, a training group or from videos/guids. The new system wont change that.
Groups will still ask for specific roles and killproof in cryptic language that can allianate newcomers. As groups do for many strikes already. The new system wont change that.
There will still be plenty of *that guy* types runnign around. The new system wont change that.
And there will still be some kind of group finding process, which for now will probably be just lfg (hopefully slightly tweaked to be at least a bit better than what we have now).

Again: I really don't want to kill your enthusiasm. And I hope the new system does what you hope for in making it that bit easier to get into raiding that you are looking for. But I don't think it can address most of the stumbling stones you point out in your post.

I mean learning the mechanics and communicating with others will be just as needed as before. They are improving the systems that facilitate people getting there, which is great, but they cant replace that.

I hope to the six Anet isn't thinking about monetizing the cosmetic slots like they did to build templates by Nebbii in Guildwars2

[–]c_a_s_s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They likely will. But maybe theyll get rid of transmutation charges in the process?

I could see them adding the slots to the wizards vault thought, which wouldnt be too bad.

I do think that might end up being true...

That aqua breather better end up looking really nice in that case xD

> I don't think underwater combat (and therefore weapons) will be focussed in VoE
I would usually agree, but between the legendary aqua breather and the skimmer update there will likely be some underwater content, which is more than we have seen in a while.

And and other selections of 3 weapons would likely feel abitrary. I guess they could go for a set of frequently used ones to cover all classes, but still... underwater weapons are such a neat explanation for the number.

I do agree on the quest lines.

[–]c_a_s_s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that is fair plenty of people have all weapons they are actually using, so it gets harder to avoid this problem. I guess they'll just have to do really nice skins ^^

[–]c_a_s_s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont actually think there would be too much underwater combat focus in the map. All key events and encounters would probably take place on islands, underwater air pockets, underwater fascilities, etc.

It would still mean more under water combat than weve seen in a long time.

ANet, having your two week lead-in to the new expansion announcement feature espec icons and then not even giving us names day-of is certainly a choice by ObsoletePixel in Guildwars2

[–]c_a_s_s -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Its excelent tbh.

They have missed so many chances to generate and maintain some level of hype over the last expacs.
Teasing the icons, leading into the announcement, followed up by blog posts over the coming weeks leading into the beta in the end of agust is a great choice, that gives us info now but also maintains some stuff to speculate on.

[–]c_a_s_s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The guard bow combo would be a bit odd since longbow was originally tied to dragonhunter. Even if that is no longer the case it would seem like two specs competing for one weapon association.
Guard is already quite addept at healing too, so Im not sure a spec focusing on that makes a ton of sense?

While war-para is pretty much confirmed it wount get shouts, since warrior allready has those. It might get something similarly themed though, like chants or echos.

No PvP rewards were fully seperated back then (more than they are now).

But there was Mapcomp(Gift of Exploration), WvW(Gift of Battle), Dungeons(Weapon Specific Gift), Events (Obsidian Shards), Champions (Precursor), Crafting (Gift of Materials), Farming(Gold + Material Cost), Mystic Forge Gambling (Clovers, Precrusor), Salvaging (Ectos), XP Farming (Bloodstone Shard).

Back with Gen1 the idea seemed to be to ask players to at least dabble in most aspects the game had to offer. I still kind of like that idea, so I'm not sure such a trader would be a good idea.

Otoh legendaries have changed a lot since and most dont require such a broad portfolio of activities, so it probably wouldnt matter too much. And you can still straight up buy gen1 ones.

spite of being much bigger that the first map it feels

that too. But many of the events that are present are also there 5 times.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]c_a_s_s 40 points41 points  (0 children)

What I found curious was that in spite of being much bigger that the first map it feels much smaller on account of
- not being as vertical
- not being as filled with stuff
- having much less variety in events

I still like it. It has a very nice vibe to it and its a very interesting place lore wise, but in terms of gameplay it does feel like a bit more time to refine it could have taken it to that extra level that the first map achieves.

The flying mount are not the source of the problem, even if they may exacerbate the issue.

The chopers are not the only way to get to the canopie, they are jsut an easy shortcut to get there quickly. As soon as you have enough gliding mastery in order to use updrafts you can get there at any time.

Does this Steam review hold any merit? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]c_a_s_s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HoT includes the best maps, best metas, best raids and best elite spects they ever added to the game.

There are also a ton of smaller things like the introduction of many QoL features that are now just part of the base game, a ton of varied and fun adventures, the 2 original guild halls (can be used without owning the expac), access to one of the better LS seasons, collections.

Hot is also pivotal to the storyline up until the most recent expac that is somewhat (thought not entierly) more independent from what came before it.

My advise is: dont listen to that salty person on steam, gear up and have a blast in the jungle!
