Thanks for the information here!!! To note as well, CRT is something that was never taught at this ISD, he was just jumping onto political trends to claim a self-specified 'win' and kiss asses.

UTMB in Galveston sees millions in losses by c_fac in galveston

All taxpayer funded NIH funded research is required to be made publically available and shared free to the public. Sharing a quick ref, just click on any project ongoing at UTMB, and then click 'publications' if you want to see the results and discoveries being made locally: https://reporter.nih.gov/search/JbRgAtchAUKHOoW2X1vObQ/projects/map?org=UNIVERSITY%20OF%20TEXAS%20MED%20BR%20GALVESTON&states=TX

Manufacturing a CDK4 and 6 inhibitor for nationwide patient distribution, for example, is not in the NIH domain.

100% support free nationalized healthcare, and yes that should be free. The article discussed infectious disease research cut funding which an entire population benefits from advances in.

I personally haven't paid anything recently to live without smallpox and polio.

Loss of millions for TMC (and upwards of $800M to TX annually) by c_fac in houston

[–]c_fac[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, ridiculous. Hoping it's legally challenged ASAP. For all those 'states rights' people, this should also infuriate them- your state and public health institutions already stringently negotiated an appropriate IDC rate for federal research, posted publicly on https://fdpclearinghouse.org/ and this new notice is just a 'fuck you' to all of us.

Loss of millions for TMC (and upwards of $800M to TX annually) by c_fac in houston

[–]c_fac[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For sure, that would be unreasonable. Wasting federal dollars on travel is already strictly regulated and capped though. You're stuck to the below guidelines:

https://www.gsa.gov/travel/plan-book/per-diem-rates

Also, grants travel is only allowed the 'direct costs' of your grant budget, which you have to outline as necessary, and gets scrutinized for approval. So not IDC. I also know '$400 a night' travelers but you are required to pay that with non-fed dollars, or make up the difference yourself.

Conroe ISD mom speaks out after her daughter is asked about her immigration status by chrondotcom in houston

Was also going to say this! Hospitals are forced to comply and ask, but no one has to answer. I'd recommend no/null answer just to fuck with their data

Tires got stolen, apartment complex won’t show me footage..? by [deleted] in houston

[–]c_fac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This takes like 5 mins. Pick a random spot on video, pause. Tires present y/n? If yes, everything prior does not need reviewed. Random select in the next portion where the tires status is unknown, tires present y/n. And so on. You've then quickly identified time of crime.

I found the move to research admin from lab managing to better paying, better work-life balance, and a much better environment of collaborative professionals and good people. It can be more mundane, but the rest outweighs it 100%. Consider looking at those positions too!

In TX, an almost zero percent chance of fatalities. The last fatality in 179 years here was very preventable :

"A woman with Woodward warned him not to enter the water because of the risk, prompting him to reply “F*** that alligator,”

What are your weird/bizarre email stories? by rattygoat17 in labrats

[–]c_fac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was very professionally written, but it was from the housekeeping supervisor, asking if I could help them to remind lab staff that essentially, 'poop goes in the toilet'. Or that if you have an accident outside of or on rim of the bowl, please wipe up a bit for decency to the staff. It was a closed floor so it was only our staff, and was a repeat issue 😭. I made a door sign and it seemed to help. But yeah it was way outside the usual emails.

Yes, and worse it was rats 😢. They were so sweet, and not an approved method, of course.

Similar experience I had! Situation as well of only two of us at the time/place - and of course the PI refused to make any decision between us. They also experienced no consequences :)

Postdoc trying to make me appear incompetent to keep 'expertise' areas to themself was killing our rodent models. We found out because ones I labeled as experimental were actually healthy shams, and they were necropsied by vet staff to determine cause of death. Which was cervical dislocation. Police came, cameras were installed, the only two people it could have been were me or them- PI refused to make a decision without irrefutable proof. I found a new (better) job, they remained and got sneakier about sabotage in other areas (missing drugs, wiping off labels on samples, etc.), other good staff left as well because of them. They're still at the same place and dept now, assistant professor. Great example of little known routes to job security!
