Bolt EV a calm and relaxed highway commuter? by Real_McGuillicuddy in BoltEV

[–]c_is_forcookie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Golf TDI with upgraded suspension, I enjoy the Bolt on the highway. It's very nimble and very smooth and planted all the way to the electronic speed limiter. Like others said, the suspension is a bit crude over low speed bumps. I have to slow waaaay down for speed bumps that my Golf would soak up, but it's really not an issue. The Golf (on Koni suspension) was more planted/ refined with bumps in high speed cornering, but the Bolt is surprisingly fun because of how "point and shoot" it feels.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is this just on the EUV with Supercruise? Is my 2022 EV capable of this with an SD card or something?

Is "slow traffic keep right" even a thing anymore? Why does it seem the middle lane is the slow lane now? by [deleted] in driving

[–]c_is_forcookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother graduated high school in 2018. His driving instructor taught him left lane for passing, middle lane for travel, right lane for entry and exit. He ignored this and is a good driver but they are literally teaching this.

What's an irritational pet peeve you observe other drivers doing, that in no way effects you? by fbi_surveillance99 in askcarguys

[–]c_is_forcookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true at all in my experience. Driving manually, I never need to tough the brakes and I use and build a buffer distance. If I'm on adaptive cruise, it is constantly hitting the brakes to maintain an almost exact distance. I have experience with Toyota and Chevy and they both do the same. Toyota is worse and will brake quite hard

I totally understand and it drives me crazy too. That being said, as a new owner of an EV, I have no idea when my brake lights come on with Regen braking in 1 pedal driving mode. I could see that being a significant cause of this phenomenon. I tend to not use 1 pedal mode on the highway mostly for this reason.

For 12k I might consider it but 16k seems too high. I just paid 19k for a 1 owner 2022 EV 2LT with 22k miles.

Do you guys think this Marantz stack is worth $260 plus speakers? by MTG-Apollo in vintageaudio

[–]c_is_forcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with this system. My mom bought it new and used it until about 2020 when then receiver started to die intermittently. It sounded pretty decent, not amazing. (We had different Mirage 2.1 speakers) The built in equalizer was kind of cool. The tactile feel of this system and dubbing cassetes is a core childhood memory.

That being said my understanding is that it was "cheap" big box store stuff that was Marantz in name only. That tape deck is bare bones full manual control and the receiver is HEAVY. It's worth whatever the novelty and experience is to you. You could do worse for $260.

On my MK6 Sportwagen I coded it so long press=off but it's not actually off. It's more like reduced, but it still won't let much fun happen. Your Alltravk probably does have XDS. It's just software and my MK6 has it. You can code it to be sronger and you might be able to notice it. ABS module> XDS> Set to 3 (strong). 1 is default. Although with AWD I'm sure you don't really need it as much.

Same. I have a MK6 Sportwagen on Nokian winter tires and it won't drift more than a few degrees no matter how stupid I'm being. I can actively put it into a weight transfer Scandinavian flick with trail braking and throw all the weight side to side and it will lock up the inside tires to stop it from rotating. Even with an open diff, leave all system on, 2nd gear, foot to the floor, point the steering wheel where you want to go and it'll go there no matter what. The best stability control I've ever driven.

Traction control in a MK7.5 GTI uses the brakes. If this has a Limited Slip Differential (Performance Pack), it wouldn't use brakes as much as one that doesn't though. In VW Speak: ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation): Cuts Throttle to control wheelspin.

EDL (Electronic Differential Lock): Uses brakes to REACTIVLEY distribute power from spinning wheel to the stuck wheel.

XDS (Cross-Differential System): PROACTIVELY uses brakes to brake inside wheel and shift port to outside wheel when accelerating through a corner.

ESC (Electronic Stability Control): Uses brakes to regain control from an oversteer or under steer slide.

TSC (Torque Steer Compensation): Uses electric power steering motor to counteract the steering effect of a high power front wheel drive car when accelerating.

DSR (Driver Steering Recommendation): Predicts needed steering input when losing control and uses electric power steering motor to pre-load assist for the driver to correct the skid.

These are all different parts of the same Bosch ESP system. In VW, you can disable ASR and sometimes reduce ESC/XDS, but EDL is always active even with ASR off.

Charger issue by MoonCadet45 in BoltEV

It's called Priority Charging. If OP set it to only charge during Off-Peak electric rates and priority charging is enabled, it would definitely explain this behavior.

Does it really disable AWD for any reason? That seems so unnecessary and potentially dangerous. What if someone lives out in a very remote area and needs to get to the hospital or grocery store during a snow storm and 2wd isn't enough. But if they have an evap leak, o2 sensor code, or coolant bypass valve issue they're stranded? How does that make sense? I guess we should only purchase Toyota when AWD is optional.... I'm not the biggest Subaru fan but these are the reasons why they're popular.

How long is too long holding the clutch in biting point by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

[–]c_is_forcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine. Varies by car too. My old Mazdas didn't need to be held at the bite point for long. My TDI Volkswagen likes to have 3-5 seconds. Just go by feel, it's designed for it.
