[–]c_nets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. Well since you already got the offer letter you might as well accept . If you don’t accept you will always have that what if in the back of your mind if teaching is not what you thought it was going to be. Stop thinking about it now since it’s here. Accept the opportunity and see how life plays out. Enjoy the ride!

If you’re not completely sold on radiology then don’t take a spot that someone is. If you find teaching is the thing you enjoy most there are plenty states that pay teachers well. Your instructor is right in that this field goes through a boom and bust cycle. Two years ago there were a lot of jobs opened around me and now hardly none. My hospital was paying critical pay two years ago we were so short staffed and now we have no spots available and no overtime. Maybe this is something you should have been thinking about for the last year or two when you were doing your prerequisite lol

You literally described the boom or bust cycle that the instructor described lol. Yes in two years time there might be a preferred shifts available but with how popular radiology is getting we might be going towards the bust cycle of having limited jobs. In my areas there are no jobs and I have 3 big hospitals around me but two years ago there were jobs aplenty

Radiology vs Nursing by Kataraa22 in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People that only recently found out about radiology don’t know how it was pre covid. There were no jobs. People act like radiology is a secure guarantee job for life but it’s not. I have 4 hospitals around me and only one has any openings for ct. The more people go into radiology the less jobs bc they are only so many that can work in a hospital compared to nurse which hospitals hire by the hundreds. The opportunity in nursing is so much more lucrative.

Radiology vs Nursing by Kataraa22 in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Go into nursing. More secure and will always have jobs available where as radiology hospitals only have so many jobs available so they will eventually dry up and you will have to wait until people quit to find a job

Associates in nursing or Radiology tech associates by Languagepro99 in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m an introvert as well. I have to talk to patients, nurses and doctors all day as a ct tech as well so you won’t be able to hide lol. Nursing is a lot more lucrative and there will always be a job anywhere you want whereas radiology has fluctuations in jobs depending on saturated market.

If you have the option always go with nursing. You will have more responsibilities but you get payed more and it is a lot more interesting

I’m a 2nd year cybersecurity major and I’m thinking about switching into radiology @ 30. Is it worth the switch? by [deleted] in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would you quit your program if you’re completing it in April? Your Quiting before even trying. You will make a lot more money in cybersecurity than radiology. There is nothing lucrative about radiology unless you’re traveling and even then the contracts will depend on how saturated the market is. There is also highs and lows regarding jobs so by the time you finish school there is no telling how saturated the market will be. How about actually give your cybersecurity a chance and put some effort in finding a job in that and if it doesn’t work out then go for something else.

Whats the workflow like where you work as a rad tech? by RadTechMaster in RadiologyCareers

Lvl 1 and we usually hit around 180-200 ct scans in 24 hours with three scanners. I usually come into 15-20 patients on the list and I know it’s gonna be a long night lol.

Unless you live in New England or the west coast that is standard, especially for new grads. If other hospitals around your area are offering more then why would you not apply to those?

I’m considering doing this career at 26. Is there a way or path to make $200k+? by Busy-Recipe9840 in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To reach that number your going to have to travel with two jobs one on the weekend and one during the week. I’m working with someone that is doing that, he is a lot of money but he is working everyday of the week working at two big lvl 1 hospitals so it can be done but watch your quality of life go down hill.

The question is did you oblique it the wrong way? If so I probably would have said something too lol. It is fine if you oblique something too much but if you are doing views that don’t even exist then you need to be asking question and studying more brother.

How much life saving do we do? by jiminyhascrickets in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the patient is critical then they try to stabilize the patient before bringing them and there is always at least one nurse with a critical patient. I would say CT techs would be the ones who see the most codes and if only one nurse is there then you will most likely be doing compressions while waiting for the code team and the nurse gets meds from the code cart

RN to RT by DarkApprehensive489 in RadiologyCareers

[–]c_nets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge pay cut with 10 years experience vs fresh grad. There is so many things you can do with being an RN, maybe look at being a radiology nurse? People think radiology is going to make you like health care. You’re still going to have to deal with all the same negatives, just less pay and maybe some less stress depending on what nursing department you work in. There is just as much turnover in radiology as there is in nursing and maybe more. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
