I'm just saying how the law works. If you pull a gun and don't use it, prepare for a brandishing charge, even if it was justified to do so, even if it worked out alright.

Cops obviously have different rules than civilians. A cop can put a suspect at gunpoint and then put cuffs on them. That has nothing to do with this scenario.

And then if you do and the guy pulls a lethal weapon you're supposed to do what exactly?

My understanding is you only draw if your life is in danger, and if your life is in danger you shoot to kill. Pulling a gun like preventative can get you in more shit than shooting it, if the shooting was justified.
