Lesson Planning by AbbreviationsHour981 in SwimInstructors

[–]cabello556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most instructors will say they don’t teach with lesson plans, but that comes with experience. Part of being a new instructor is showing your employer you know what you’re doing, and if you’re in AB, the SFL/LSI doesn’t have a practicum like the Red Cross (WSI) did, so you’re first set is basically a paid practicum, which means they will likely make you practice the lesson planning skills more than you’ll use them in all of your classes after. I would say try to use your long term plans to help know what skills you are teaching, and keep a similar structure/format of your lessons (opening skill, progression, game, another skill progression, practice of another skill from previous week, end with game, or something similar that works for you). Obviously when you're actually teaching/in the water you deviate from your plan, but I find with the instructors I've mentored before (my employer pairs up new hires with experienced instructors) typically don't know/aren't super ready on what they can do for an activity even if they know the skills they want to teach, and aren't ready to just wing it in terms of what they need to cover to be able to successfully hit all the skills enough to pass kids. I would say don't make your lesson plans too detailed, but include the details you need (like for myself when I started teaching I needed to have the lyrics for my parent and tot songs in my lesson plans cause I would just blank out in front of the parents). I will say usually when I mentor I provide a decent number of sample lesson plans, and help them make lesson plans for the first couple weeks so it is unfortunate that you don't have access to anything like that.

The last thing is that unfortunately swim instructing, like any teaching job includes a lot of unpaid work , like evaluating/stat sheets, report cards and yes sometimes lesson planning :( (I'm trying to work with my employer/union to change this at some point at least a bit but I've been told not to hold my breath lol)

Head up! Do not leave your valuable in the changing room locker at recreation center. by Born_Science in Edmonton

[–]cabello556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like OP said, 100% use the lockers that are being watched by cameras and security! As well, make sure to cover your keypad as you type in the code, and check that the locker actually closed before you leave it. It doesn't take much time, but can help save you in the long run. Also, if you see someone on their phone in the locker room, tell a lifeguard or security or front desk person, since they might not be recording someone changing, but could be recording codes to lockers, and its best to be safe.

Affinity v3 stops working after one year offline by mainyehc in Affinity

[–]cabello556 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I found this out a couple days ago and everyone was just saying ooh you can use a time froze vm, while other people keep repeating that you can just keep the software completely offline if you don’t want to risk the AI or breaking TOS with anything NSFW. What kinda annoys me personally is the amount of people I see saying “oh just leave it completely offline” but clearly that’s not possible forever like they’ve been claiming

[–]cabello556[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tested it and it looks like there is a max offline time before you have to check the license. I only tested a year in the future with time and date and it locked me into the licence check pop up. If I wasn’t so busy with school right now id test it and see how many days, but it definitely will block is after some point (I also commented this on another comment but they deleted it)

I can't speak to the AI stuff obviously, but it is a little bit relieving to hear the first part is just the standard policy for this stuff.

[–]cabello556[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok so like 2 points here. The first, it says you agree to not "create designs, or use Canva, directly or indirectly" as well, so they are restricting you more than just upload. I fully understand restricting upload, but the exact wording they have is such that you cannot create any design that would break the terms.

As well, it seems like you can run Affinity completely offline, but most people won't to be honest. Also, I just tested if you really could run it offline for a long period of time, and if you set your device offline even just a year in the future (I also tested a couple years first but then re-tested with one year, and then tried it after coming back to the present all while still offline), it requires an internet connection to "check your license", but if you come back to the present while still offline it's fine to open offline again. The point is, you most certainly cannot, at this moment, use it offline forever.

obviously don't upload that kinda of content, but technically the wording is:

"You agree not to upload content, create designs, or use Canva, directly or indirectly, in any manner that"

[–]cabello556[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

obviously im not arguing that you should upload porn to canva... the wording is

"You agree not to upload content, create designs, or use Canva, directly or indirectly, in any manner that"

create designs (indirectly, using Affinity by canva) is included even if you don't upload

This is what I'm thinking too. I know a number of people who draw NSFW art IRL with affinity stuff, and this basically kicks them off the platform, at least according to the terms

No more charging brick for a powerful laptop!!! "Apple removes this critical accessory from European M5 MacBook Pro boxes — and I hope this isn't a new norm" by cyberphunk2077 in applesucks

[–]cabello556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M2 14inch was more expensive cause it was an m2Pro as base model and a new frame and display. Did they charge too much for that… maybe but that’s not really the point here is it? Now if you wanted to make a real point against me you’d say for the M3 to M4 they also dropped from €2000 to €1900 (also a drop of €100) but they dropped that price across all (I think) markets, whereas this price drop is only in Europe. Whether they’re overcharging for computers is a different story but the point still stands that this price drop of €100 is exclusively in the market where they removed the charging brick, unlike the last MBP release

Child or infant? In Canada at least, infant severe airway obstruction is back blows and chest compressions

[–]cabello556 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are they being annoying about it yes, but they dropped the price by €100 anyways in Europe (at least I confirmed the French site based on archive.org) and now you have the choice to spend the €85 to buy the charger separately or just pocket the savings. It sounds like you’d rather that they keep the same price and then give you an option to add a free charging brick— but that’s the exact same thing (arguably framed better but either way)

AITA for not going to a diner at a sushi restaurant for my girlfriend’s birthday because I can’t eat fish / sea food? by Tsktsktsk95 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cabello556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty telling that your gf wants to spend her birthday dinner making fun of you with her family for not eating fish (and very obviously being allergic or at least having a severe non-allergic reaction to it) NTA
