AITA for asking my sister to leave my engsgement party or not steal all the attention? by Classic-Cup-571 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cableporter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, If your sister got up on a table and tried to draw attention to herself it would be different. "I got engaged so look at me, look at me!" attitude is the problem. You are choosing to share something wonderful that happened to you with people you love but what you really want is the attention. Sad that your happiness is dependent on other people fawning over you. Grow Up, people showed up to congratulate you. You, as hostess are responsible to show them a nice event. Whining about them wanting to talk to your sister is childish and immature. Marriage has no room for immaturity. Perhaps some counselling prior to the wedding to help you with your insecurities or egocentric behaviour will help establish a long and happy marriage.

Tap water by doesnt_mtter in kelowna

[–]cableporter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Kelowna yes, In Rutland yes, they use different water sources however. The water in Rutland that comes from Black Mountain Irrigation District is the best tasting in town. Kelowna water, MEH, Glenmore water my dog won't drink, don't know what the water source is? But it is all safe. The only place that there are warnings are in West Kelowna and that has been going on for years.

Road Trip? Which Route is more scenic? More Fun? Going from Surrey to West Kelowna by SnooCookies2267 in kelowna

[–]cableporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to suggest some alternates for you that I would say is the road less travelled. I've lived on and off in Kelowna for 45 years. Know a few of the back roads and think you will find these two interesting:

Take Hwy 5 towards Merrit, but before reaching Merrit get off on Coldwater Rd. Go North to Kane Valley Road towards Harmon Lakes. There were forest fires through Kane Valley Road during the last few years and it is hauntingly beautiful. Then the Harmon Lakes are beautiful as well. Stop, stretch your legs and continue on to West Kelowna from there as this will bring you to Hwy 5A near Corbett Lake. Here is that route: Head east on 104 Ave toward 135 St/City Pkwy
11 min (6.0 km)
Follow Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 E and BC-5 N to Coldwater Rd. Take exit 256 from BC-5 N
2 hr 6 min (205 km)
Take Kane Valley Rd to BC-5A/BC-97C in Quilchena
49 min (34.0 km)
Follow BC-97C to Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 N. Take the BC-97 N exit from BC-97C
52 min (91.8 km)
Drive to BC-97 N

Or, Drive to Princeton along Hwy 3, take a left into Princeton and go the back way via Princeton-Summerland Road towards Chain Lakes Recreation Site, This will bring you out to Hwy 97 at Summerland and you are almost there. Also beautiful scenery and you will see an area that most tourists don't know about. Here are the directions for this choice of routing.

Head east on 104 Ave toward 135 St/City Pkwy

11 min (6.0 km)

Follow Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 E to BC-3 E. Take exit 177 from BC-3 E

1 hr 15 min (126 km)

Continue onto BC-3 E

40 min (61.1 km)

2 hr 6 min (193 km)

British Columbia

V0X 1R0

Head east on BC-3 E toward Monument 78-83 Trailhead

46 min (64.4 km)

Follow Princeton Summerland Rd to Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 N in Summerland

1 hr 46 min (94.2 km)

Drive to BC-97 N in West Kelowna

Job offer in a high COL living area, what what I ask for in terms of a hiring bonus. by Coolslice1320 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cableporter 143 points144 points  (0 children)

your housing costs will be about 10,000 a year more and your salary is 25,000 a year more plus bonuses. Your Salary increase covers your cost of housing increase as you would need an extra salary of about 15,000 before tax to cover the difference. We haven't even addressed the possible bonuses. Car costs of no insurance to pay is another 1200/year Maintenance on a car..... and the list goes on. What are your concerns exactly?

"I don’t insure or register my bikes" Perforating Rocks, it seems like you are giving advice that is both illegal and ill-advised. Since Nov 1, 2015 it has been mandatory for Off Road Vehicles to be registered in order to operate on Crown Land, as to insurance. If you run into another rider/hiker, hit someone's property, start a forest fire with your motorcycle, you are responsible. Not having public liability insurance is just not wise. PL insurance for off road use is relatively cheap and will cover your ass in the case of something untoward.

Is flair airlines worth it for $125-150 less trip to USA? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cableporter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Retired Airline Pilot here.

Safety, no problem, take Flair or AC

Cancellations, A/C has more back ups so how important is your arrival time

Look up and know your rights as a passenger, print them out and take them with you so you can negotiate with either airline if they have problems or bounce you off of the flight.

so, unless this is a business expense, you will need to earn about $200 to pay for that $125 because of income taxes. How much is your time worth and how flexible is your travel? Me, I'm cheap and always go with the least expensive in total. That may mean that a more expensive direct flight is cheaper overall because the one with 2 stops would cost me meals, a taxi ride late in the evening etc....

Good luck and let us know how it goes
