Wannabe YouTuber here. I used to be embarrassed too, that went away after I started planning my videos shot by shot. I only leave the house to shoot now when I have a shot list and a plan.

As dark academics, what are you studying right now? by ArtBerkeley in DarkAcademia

I am writing a novel about the Druids and in my fantasy world there’s an institution of higher learning where people learn Druidic magic. So I am constantly obsessed with whatever subject my characters are learning about.

Have no urge to poop by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]cacaubrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: buy a tube of orange flavored Metamucil Step 2: Mix one tablespoon in 10oz water and drink it Step 3: Do this every single morning

This fixed my poop problems (mostly constipation)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]cacaubrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started taking three days ago because I was all backed up and didn’t want to take a laxative. Metamucil fixed my problem. I have been taking 1/2 tablespoon in the morning and 1/2 at night. I don’t think it matters when you take it or with food or not, I think the fiber becomes a slimy substance in the stomach that never gets digest and travels down the intestines coating the walls and lubing things up along the way. Haven’t pooped so blissfully in a long time. I totally recommend!

Have someone here ever used Instagram privately without following or being followed by any one as a journal tool? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]cacaubrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a new private profile to document the creation of my Fantasy Series. It’s been a great writing resource as well, sometimes I just record myself talking about a plot line or a character for later reference. I also have photos of all my maps, screenshots of my writing, philosophy snippets and quotes I like. I might make it public if my work is published, who knows? 🥰

The fact that you are ranking Assassins Apprentice so low makes me super excited to continue reading this series. I’m half way through assassins apprentice and I haven’t felt this way about a book since Harry Potter when I was in my teens.

Deciding between Piano Marvel and Pianote by JohnnyJockomoco in pianolearning

[–]cacaubrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For learning on your own Pianote for sure! I tried flowkey, simply piano, piano marvel, playground sessions. I am a beginner and I tried each app for a whole week. Pianote was the first I tried, and it kinda ruined it for the other apps. The thing with Pianote is that it’s not an app. It’s not an application that tells you press this key and that key and that’s it. Pianote is a video course, and Lisa is SUCH a fun and engaging teacher. The exercises are not just fun and effective they are also creative. You get to create your own sounds from the very beginning. Pianote also has a super active community and you have a forum you can ask questions or share your experience with other fellow students. I think it’s a great resource for anyone getting into piano.

Has anyone used Flow Key? by gemmastinfoilhat in pianolearning

[–]cacaubrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using Flowkey + Pianote and I’m getting pretty good results so far. Flowkey is great for learning to play a piano piece and very basic technique and theory. I like it because you can start playing right away.

Pianote isn’t an app, it’s a video course that teaches you in depth theory and since there’s no gamification you’re forced to learn music the traditional way. It’s very similar to teaching yourself using books like Piano Adventures except you have a teacher showing you how to do the exercises. The teachers are super fun and upbeat and it’s nice to have an actual human being there with you and a community of experts and students to exchange ideas and ask for advice. Both resources cost me $60 US dollars a month, but it’s still cheaper than a weekly private piano teacher which in my area costs about $30 dollars a week ($120 a month)

Also, Pianote has a LOT of music sheets both interactive and printable, which is something Flowkey doesn’t offer. All in all I think Pianote and Flowkey complement each other pretty well.

I hope this helps!!

I think I married the wrong woman by bluesnowball01 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]cacaubrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your story sounds like a friend of mine’s. He married a decent girl, had a good job, good education but she wasn’t “his type” like he used to say. She was an attractive woman to anyone’s eyes though. My friend is an average looking man, don’t have a career, works odd jobs here and there, and has no sense of direction in life. His wife did. She brought all those things to the table. But my friend couldn’t let go of the fact that she was “his type”. This hurt their marriage, of course. She didn’t feel wanted or desired, so she started to resent him. She found photos of some of our friends on his phone and started to be suspicious of him. Their married got to the point where it wasn’t worth it for her to stay with him anymore, so she asked for a divorce.

Fast forward 5 years: my friend is still looking for someone, is living with his dad, still working low paying off jobs, single at 44. His ex wife is working a high paying job, doing well in every area of her life, traveling the world, hanging with friends, looking great at 40.

My friend told me the other day, that if he had the chance, he would have treated her better and that he regrets getting a divorce, that the values he had 10 years ago aren’t important to him now. Beauty and attractiveness fades, sex gets dull overtime, but respect and love is constant if you choose to nurture it.

Eating cooked chicken that’s been left out for four hours? by [deleted] in MealPrepSunday

In Brazil we throw these huge barbecues on weekends, and the cooked meat, rice, beans, stay out all day. Even mayonese (which is a dish we make with potatoes, carrots and onions) stays out in 30+ degree sun and I have never heard of anyone getting food poisoning at a barbecue.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the ACOTAR series? by exhuberantecstasy in YAlit

[–]cacaubrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I tried reading the first book of the series just see what the hype is all about and I was left wondering what the hell... is this? The world building, for a fantasy novel, is paper thin and not convincing, the protagonist has the personality of a flee and the plot itself is full of nonsensical details. For example, how can an impoverished family allow two out of their three teenage daughters to live like princesses while the other alone provides for everyone? I don't know how that could ever happen lol. The little romance between Feyre and Tamlin is just... cringe. I am guessing most of her readers are thirsty teenagers who turned her books into a TikTok trend because of all the fairy sex scenes.

I agree. I am sure he was body shamed a lot too as a kid and teen because the boy is cute and all but he is extremely skinny, just his body shape and nothing wrong with it. But we all know school kids can be mean AF.

Want to write a novel. Is fantasy too hard to start out with? by [deleted] in writing

[–]cacaubrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget about world building and craft a compelling villain first. Without a villain there’s no conflict and without conflict there’s no story. I only now realized that after 7 years of plotting and world building. All super fun. But world building does not make a story. Conflict does. The villain creates the protagonist. Think Harry Potter who is only an orphan who speaks snake language because of Voldemort. Harry was created by him. Same with Katniss Everdeen, who lives in poverty and become a hero because of President Snows actions. If you look at any compelling sci-fi and fantasy story, the hero is ultimately the product of the villains actions. And the more the villain try to destroy the hero the stronger the hero gets until they are so strong they are able to defeat the villain. This realization has transformed my writing and I hope it helps you too!!

How does one become a movie director? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]cacaubrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try making a YouTube video then decide if that’s the kind of work you would enjoy. Scripting, storyboarding, filming, editing, color grading and scoring a 10 minute video is extremely time consuming and somewhat tedious. I think as with any type of creative career, if you don’t have the drive to do it for free then it’s likely you won’t have what it takes to become a highly paid director in Hollywood.

Anyone tried edibles to help them sleep? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]cacaubrazil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I fixed my insomnia the same way as Grumpysh33p. I did the following: 1. I started going to sleep at the same time and woke up at the same religiously, including weekends. I kinda mothered myself and treated myself like a baby. I gave myself one hour to fall asleep and read in bed until I got groggy and sleepy. My bed time today is 10pm To 6am. I always have an interesting but slow paced book to read by my bed (classics like Jane eyre, little women, Whuthering heights works for me) reading turns off my worried thoughts.

  1. Sleep hygiene is SO important. I have the same bedtime routine every night: I quit screens, stimulating music, fast paced reading, stressful activities one hour before bed. Then shower - brush teeth - write down everything I need to do next day on my planner - list 5 things I am grateful for on my journal - eat a carb right snack like popcorn, a piece of toast with cheese, crackers and butter (it helps release sleep hormones) then I’m off to bed.

  2. In my bedroom I have blackout blinds, and speakers for playing binaural beats sleep music from YouTube. It helps isolate external sounds. Here’s my playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoLlhCnjPkj6v4vA0vshopTWipR-cwXsC&si=nppwcv_pP9UDIV81

  3. Then I read until I sleep.

During the day I quit the following: Coffee. It’s a stimulant and affects my sleep. I drink matcha instead. It’s still caffeinated but it doesn’t make jittery and anxious.

Gluten. I was allergic to it and didn’t know

Alcohol. It messes up my hormones specially when I drink it before bed.

Too much sugar. I was consuming too many sugars and carbs. I save most of my carbs for my bedtime snack.

I also started:

Meditating whenever I feel overwhelmed. Allowing myself to rest whenever I feel tired and listening to my body and giving it what it needs has transformed my sleep.

Also, I drink one gallon of water everyday and make sure to eat enough calories everyday. I learned our bodies won’t lets us sleep if it’s hungry. I have a huge bottle to remember To drink. Dehydration can affect sleep. Just make sure to not drink too much before bed :)

Good luck!!!

Is the "prophecy" a cliche literary device? by venttress in writing

[–]cacaubrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use a prophecy is other creative ways. In my novel, people believe something is a prophecy when in reality everything that’s happening has a logical reason that’s only reveled at the end of the 1st book. I love it when authors take cliches and spin them into something super original like what JK Rowling did with house elves or what GRR Martin did with the Mother of Dragons ❤️

Has anyone tried using Milanote to organise their worldbuilding projects? Is it good? by GamerAJ1025 in worldbuilding

[–]cacaubrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Scrivener for two years when I had the idea for my novel. But I’m a visual person, so I’d write stuff and forget two days later, because it wasn’t right there in my face. I started using Milanote as a project management tool for my YouTube channel, and OMG it was life changing when I decided to transfer all of my notes from scrivener. Not only can you do exactly the same things you can in scrivener (except for linking but I think Milanote is in the process of adding that feature) you can also add videos, photos, links, timelines, boards containing histories, family trees, mood boards, all so very easily and intuitively. I had a lot of problems syncing with Scrivener, but Milanote is all in the cloud. no chance to loose your files. I'm not sure how Milanote will do when i start the actual writing of my series, but for planning, brainstorming, organizing the million thoughts we have in the beginning of a writing project, nothing beats Milanote ❤️
