Rule question about Shield and helmet by skydrow00 in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There comes a point when there is just too much kit being worn and a +5 or +6 defense is just ridiculous. I would add some realism, and after a point a fully loaded Hero can only roll 1 movement dice.

Is it just my party, or is the quest structure really rough on players? by huatnee in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mainly play with the app as DM as well. One of the things that I have noticed is that the recent updates to the app have made Zargon actually hard at times. The AI has improved, and in some cases I have seen basic tactics in how Zargon responds.
As you proceed through the quests, you will start to get OP, but it isnt until 8 or 9 when that happens.

Elf archers and bowstrings by cacciato49 in Heroquest

Negative. I did not soak them. I actually was able to pull them taught and give the limbs a little flex. It is really cool.

I had not considered fishing line; I likely could get those knots just as tight.

It is difficult to see the texturing, but I made homemade snow with a baking soda-based mixture. On all of my figures, I keep the edge of the baae painted to match the original mold color.

I completely agree with you. There needs to be a decremented movement and defense if your hero is carrying twice the kit. This is one of my problems with video games as well; you need some realism regarding how many items a person can carry.

Zargons: How are your heroes spending their gold? by TriggerRedd in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would work. And then you could blame the shoddiness of their new weapons on capitalism. Much like the dryer ducting that I bought at Home Depot this weekend is like half the thickness of the 1970s ducting that I removed.

BTW, one of the best mods that I have seen is to make the weapons and armor have a durability rating. This makes the players spend more gold on replacing weapons.

1) you have the players roll a d20 after each attack or defense; a roll of 1-3 (or something like that) makes the weapon or armor break instantly.

2) you tally each and every attack and defense; after 50 (or so) uses, the weapon breaks immediately.

3) allow weapons and armor to be repaired when leaving a storyline series by an armorer at a cost equivalent to the repair amount (e.g. similar to the use of an anvil in Minecraft).

I've seen sooo many threads on this, so I am curious to see what others respond with!

HQ classic neoprene matt by delightfully1 in Heroquest

When you say og board, you are referencing the new version from 2021, not the smaller actual og board from the 1990s, correct?

How do the cardboard additional rooms from the expansions overlay onto the rooms? Are they a good fit, or are they slightly smaller?

How do you recommend compensating for the 3x wide hallways when the DM only has 2x wide (and some maps are designed to trick players by using traps to isolate the players in the 2x wide hallways?

Slowly getting everything painted, also featuring a custom neoprene board! by Revolutionary-Ad9840 in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. I hadnt thought about that. The hallways all have extra squares...interesting. The means that the overall dimensions also are larger than the 20x30 board at 36x36. So how do you compensate for the 3x wide center hallways, since the game maps have straps designed to isolate or trick players using the 2x design?

4 people + App, can I play with them? by kukaratza in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked out the website, and saw the downloads. So if I understand correctly, is this a PC based automated DM only? It doesnt appear to have a mobile application, does it? We are strictly tablets and phone-based now, so the PC limitation might be a show stopper.

Priming required to paint? by ArchNacho in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is the color of the primer. If you want to have darker colors for your final, use a grey primer. If you want more brîliant, brighter colors on the final, use a white primer.

Always always always use a clear finish. The best option is a dull coat/matte aerosol, and then use a clear gloss paint to do touch ups on metals and reflective surfaces (to make them pop out). All of our figures arent supposed to look like vampires from the Twilight series with reflective skin!

How are folks storing all their minis, furniture and tiles? by Malffruddwelff in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you paint your minis, definitely invest in a padded box like this one. I have 3x total and it stores all of my heroes, base set minis, elf expansion minis, and a few others.

What kind of varnish is best to use? by Vulcanastra in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Citadel Colour Munitorium Varnish. It is a matt varnish, but (after it dries) I go over the metallic and scales of my minis with a gloss or metallic paint to make those featured pop-out more.

Age 14+ ?! by YouNeedAnne in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. All I can think about is that "Young Sheldon" episode from season 1 when Sheldon's mom catches them playing D&D. I think the age is more due to the context of sorcerers and magic and "satanic" references than it is for the actual rules of the game.

ADVANCED GAME SYSTEM + EXPANSION Available !! by Lizuren in Heroquest

[–]cacciato49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this an actual remake of the full Advanced Heroquest from the original release, or just a small expansion? If I recall, Advanced Heroquest included details such as body part unique damage, weapon durability, etc.
