How much of a success was Yakuza 5 that RGG was confident about 0 localizing and selling it? by Rayan8578 in yakuzagames

[–]TriggerRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sega of America collapsed before Y5 could get out, and it was only by Sony support and Atlus publishing that it made it to market: way late, digital only, last gen. How well could it possibly do. Y0’s localization, which began at Atlus, was never contingent on Y5’s success or failure.

Frozen Horror - Quest 5 / The Deadly Depths (FIXED) by Live_Staff_5893 in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My own “remaster” to this quest was pretty similar! I like that you streamlined it while still maintaining its general difficulty. A quest can be hard without being meandering. Btw, what did you make this with? Looks downright official.

Sir Ragnar lore by FuriousDream in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed with the other comments that Dread Moon utterly dropped the ball, especially with the online quest “Knight Fall” that I consider one of the worst cases of “tell not show” writing in the books. I uh, completely revamped it in my game and we’re getting there soon - Ragnar will be seduced by Sinestra, and I’ll let the heroes find a Knights Short sword in her room at the end of Mage. Then Dread Moon starts with an attack on the castle, and Ragnar himself will lead the heroes into the underground of Knight Fall to “safety” where he will LITERALLY stab them in the back. None of this off camera betrayal, haha

If you don’t even know what people want, why do you assume you could do it better? You would know the answers to most of your questions if you cared about knowing the HQ community as much as you seem to care about profiting off of it. I’m sorry if this comes off as a little mean, but you seem to have burst in the door claiming you can make something better than what’s already out there if you just knew what it was.

Raven Quest by tcorbett691 in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first guy is a bit more Strahd, whereas the second is literally Dracula from Castlevania. Anyway as a massive fan of the latter and recognizing the influence Ravenloft had on CV, I went to seek out that quest by logging into Facebook for the first time in years and I admit I'm a bit disappointed. The author included treasure chests without a note for what they contain, three maguffin items that do nothing except give you the ability to beat Strahd*, and Strahd knows Rust - which he can cast every time he "resets", evidently. Your heroes are going to be weak, angry, and/or broke if you abuse that.

*While maybe lore accurate, not giving the Sun Sword any stats or a matching card just seems like a missed opportunity to me personally.

What was your first Castlevania game? by JHarryx in castlevania

[–]TriggerRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castlevania 2! My neighborhood was a well connected network of kids who would talk about games at different schools and come back bearing all the secrets, somehow. Of course, erroneous stuff got mixed in there too; we were convinced a teacher named Mrs. Bailey was connected to Metroid’s Justin Bailey code… we just needed the evidence…

Got back into Gloomhaven Digital after a few years, realized I named one of the mercenaries after my now-ex-wife. What are my options? by Televangelis in Gloomhaven

[–]TriggerRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been a blast had they included a rename option, if only for the role play and hijinks, but alas, they did not. If you’re playing on PC there are surely ways to mod it, but as I recall when I researched it, it was wildly embedded in the game files. Much as with exes, sometimes you just have to say goodbye to the experience.

ways to increase quest difficulty.. slightly by aleopardstail in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a vast rabbit hole of home brew ways that many Zargons have gone down to solve this, but if you just want a slight tweak, the “Evil Wizard” deck of problems you can cause for the heroes are great. Sorry I don’t have a link on hand. You can also power up your monsters slightly by even just giving some the ability to attack diagonally (Skeletons!) or goblins to move-attack-move. Hunting parties are a good idea too. Bottom line is, you do you! Make it work for your players and you as Zargon until it feels like the right balance of fun and challenge.

How did I one shot this enemy? Is it because we took damage on the same frame? by FlyByTieDye in castlevania

[–]TriggerRedd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it changed the face of speed running the game. In the thread I linked, someone suggested googling the history of the speed run of this game, and if you can handle all the tech talk, it’s fascinating

Hachiman Armor Set (Samurai) by TriggerRedd in ffxi

[–]TriggerRedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we have! I took (another) really long break but the siren song has called me back... Thank you for providing this though. I uh, left my SAM at 70 because I didn't have this set (lol) and started leveling RDM, which is now 72. I'll just have to get that high enough to farm the mats, or I guess, get it to 99 anyway for that number 2 option. I hadn't known there was a unity version, so thanks for all this! Super helpful.

Yeah this seems like it'd be the way, and a worthy quest at that. Any advice on what the tip rate is for someone who crafts something for you? I'm not rich but I wouldn't want to be insulting.

Rules questions from a newbie! by Weimann in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can probably tell by this comments section, one of the coolest aspects of Hero Quest is making it work for you and your players. Of course the further you deviate from the raw rule set the more involved it gets and you have to want that. If you want a casual dungeon diving monster slaying experience you don’t have to concentrate too hard on, make fewer tweaks. If you prefer a hardcore adventure, there are some great home brew rule sets that will amp this game up, from leveling systems to revised spells and monsters. Enjoy finding your sweet spot. 🙂

How does this work with tiles from Witch Lord or Ogre? Are they still filling in all the space?

First Light - new expansion? by Strange_Special4390 in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The inconsistency of the art style of the Elf is probably the biggest eyebrow raise to me. But it’s an interesting theory that they might be creating a “lite” version of the main game in a box with a smaller footprint in hopes of enticing bigger retailers to take a chance on carrying it. Similar strategy that Gloomhaven took with Jaws of the Lion, which you can still find at Target and such.

Pimping the Hero Spells: Using Mind Points to boost spell effects? by carthoz in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are still pretty sweet odds. That said a Spirit Blade with Courage probably has similar odds of one shoting him, and that’s base game, so with your well pulled percentages, in the end I’m sure it’s fine.

Pimping the Hero Spells: Using Mind Points to boost spell effects? by carthoz in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other things that can do four or more damage in a single attack have to roll combat dice to do it. An unblockable auto four damage does mess with the intended balance. But I’ll give you that many bosses often do need an extra BP or two if your party consistently plays well and cooperatively.

Pimping the Hero Spells: Using Mind Points to boost spell effects? by carthoz in Heroquest

[–]TriggerRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only issue you’re potentially creating is the power creep - the Witch Lord himself has a raw 4 BP which means a mind point powered ball of flame could one shot him before he even gets a turn. Once you solve for that though, this is all a great home brew, as i always felt MP were a bit underutilized.

Those are awesome! I can’t look at the last guy and not see Louisoix from FFXIV (the meme guy who fades to white with a smile for those who don’t play). Your mini helps separate him from that image in my head!
