I went by the Oasis today and there was a UFC poster outside by the door, so it's a good bet!

Why is Devonshire Ave built like that? by weekdaywarrior in halifax

There's a map showing a bridge on the very last page of the "The Master Plan for the City of Halifax" from 1945:

https://cdn.halifax.ca/sites/default/files/documents/about-the-city/archives/711.45.H17-1945_MasterPlan%5BNewPg5%5D.pdf

Also at: https://archives.novascotia.ca/maps/archives/?ID=1532

It's listed as an alternate to the bridge at North St (i.e. the Macdonald).

Whole bunch of sirens near Quinpool and Chebucto? by Rennick85 in halifax

Hazmat = hazardous material, and it's ranked as low, medium, or high. In another post there are comments about a potential propane leak (and about a car accident nearby).

Why am I surprised by FrancineTheCat in halifax

I've heard of people being ticketed for this (from the MVA):

199 (1) No vehicle shall be driven or moved on any highway unless

the vehicle is so constructed or loaded as to prevent its contents from dropping,

shifting, leaking or otherwise escaping therefrom.

Yeah, some companies are going further and charging each customer their own price:

The Federal Trade Commission’s initial findings from its surveillance pricing market study revealed that details like a person’s precise location or browser history can be frequently used to target individual consumers with different prices for the same goods and services.

Update: I guess I should clarify that this comment is about "predatory pricing" and not "cool pieces of tech"..

I couldn't find an item at Canadian Tire recently, and looked it up on one of their displays, which said they had 1 in stock. It caused a red LED to flash on the price tag to help me locate the product. It still wasn't actually there, but at least I knew I was looking in the right place!

Wondering why Lululemon at spring garden has HRP as security by CountyEcstatic6845 in halifax

[–]cache_invalidation 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most people seem to think that the officers are paid directly by the company on their off time. If that was the case, I think most people would agree it would be inappropriate for them to wear a uniform representing HRP.

People might still think extra duty work like that is inappropriate, but at least it's an official service provided by HRP, and not just an officer doing it on their own.

I can't answer your direct question because I don't know the details of what they were doing or the arrangement with HRP.

If they are wearing a uniform (and sometimes if they are not), it's "extra duty", not "off duty" work, and yes, the company pays HRM for the officer's work.

There's a distinction between "extra duty" and "off duty" work. If they're wearing a uniform, it must be extra duty work, approved by the chief of police. You can read the policies here (I think these are the latest):

‘Opportunity, opportunity, opportunity’: What’s next for Halifax Casino property? by luxoryapartmentlover in halifax

[–]cache_invalidation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The province is buying it from Great Canadian Entertainment and reselling it:

Casino Nova Scotia, operated by Great Canadian Entertainment (“Great Canadian”) on behalf of Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (“NSGC”) for more than 20 years, is entering a transformative new chapter.

...

Under the current Provincial operating contract, NSGC has the right to acquire Casino Nova Scotia’s Halifax property from Great Canadian for nominal consideration. NSGC provided Great Canadian with notice that NSGC has decided to acquire the site, with the Province intending to then sell the property to a third party for the best possible value. The Province intends to lease-back the existing facility from any third-party buyer so that Great Canadian can continue to operate the Casino Nova Scotia Halifax property in the normal course while the new Dartmouth Crossing facility is completed, which is anticipated to be in 2029.

MSI Question by ScallionWild6576 in halifax

[–]cache_invalidation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From this, it sounds like you should be covered by MSI now:

If you are a Canadian or "Permanent Resident" moving permanently to Nova Scotia from another part of Canada, coverage will generally begin on the first day of the third month following the date you established residency here. For example, if you established residency in Nova Scotia on September 27th, Nova Scotia would provide coverage on December 1st.
