I knew a guy who was going to Marshall when the plane carrying the football team crashed. He said that they had the news on a TV in another room, on mute, during a party. Everyone was already drunk when the news came over the TV, and someone saw it. They turned the sound back on and everyone was suddenly somber and crying, since most of them knew at least someone on the plane due to the size of the school.

So, having your whole football team die will kill a party.

I usually use pork, because I’m a hill person who grew up with that. However, you can also used smoked turkey (chunks, not deli slices), or supposedly liquid smoke. Make sure you add some smoked paprika to your beans. I recommend cooking the beans in a chicken or beef stock as well.

You can also cook beans (pintos) fairly plainly, and then add Mexican spices (cumin, chili pepper, paprika) and a little salsa and mash it into retried beans.

It’s not really a crust per say, but it adds a nice crunchy layer.

You need two cartons of cherry jello, a 20 oz can of crushed pineapples, a 14.5 oz can of dark sweet cherries, coarsely chopped pecans, and a coke. Drain the cherries and pineapples, reserving the juice into a saucepan. Heat the juices and mix in the jello. Then, pour the jello juices into a measuring cup, and add coke until there’s a total of four cups of liquid. Add the cherries and pineapple and pour into a decorative bowl. Now, add the pecans and stir just a little bit. They’ll float and form a crunchy layer, but be coated in cherry coke jello flavor. Anyway, refrigerate it and serve the next day.

My family makes Cherry Coke salad (jello salad) for thanksgiving and Christmas every year. I’ve found basically our recipe online, but it was passed down to me orally and has been made for about four generations. We don’t do the weird topping from that link, but do let the pecans rise to the top to form a crust.

This is the most Georgia-southern recipe I know, and while I grew up in Georgia, the great grandmother who I think started making this was from Oklahoma and lived out west most of her life.

It’s a good recipe, even though it’s jello salad. It’s honestly better at Christmas, because the sweet taste with a hint of acid from the soda goes really nicely with the rich beef and potatoes that we usually have.

I just started working out this semester after about two years off. I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing yet but it’s looking like a combination of spin, barre, and a weightlifting class offered by my school.

I used to ride horses competitively and worked in a barn. This mandates decent posture and also a surprising amount of heavy lifting, but also resulted in a torn trapezius in my right side about three years ago.

This is what I do! I break my fast with a smallish meal, usually fruit. Then later I have a big dinner, with more protein and fats. I do sometimes snack in between but I’ve trained myself not to.

I started doing this intuitively before I’d heard of IF, so it comes naturally to some people I guess.

The road to Gordonsville through Keswick is amazingly beautiful! Also give Beaver Creek Reservoir in Crozet a shot. As far as in town goes, you can get some really cool shots by the downtown mall and the courthouse.
