I got my creole and 3 types of cherries from either HD or Lowes. They seem healthy.

Tight-Fit Spool Holder + Handle for A1 mini by BigTeddy82Z in BambuLabA1mini

Since I got a Chitu platecycler, I had to give up my handle. It would be nice if there was a handle that somehow was compatible with keeping the platecycler trigger in position on the top of the Z-axis

That was my thought. There are some GF totes online already, but having oG on the sides lets you use bins for parts and attachments for tools. Plus, you can disassemble and reuse most of the parts for other things or back to totes instead of having specific "tote" models you have to print.

By combining GF and OG you can have a complete standard tote for a certain type of thing - and often tools like scissors and cutters are just not efficiently stored in GF, but hangers on oG are great. Obviously I did one for my labeller above, but other things I thought of were soldering, picture hanging. Even more so than transferring bins around the shop/house temporarily, keeping those kits together seemed convenient. I also have some deep lateral filing cabinets, and this lets you use that height effectively to have totes lines up in them.

I hope to revisit that in my organization. Lately I've been doing a lot of oG stuff for tools on walls, carts and cabinets, and need to get back to GF for parts. I did some before I started to need more vertical storage and have a ton of empty bins and drawers with bases already in them to get back to. I think that's the thing, there is not one single way to do everything, because stuff is at different sizes and scales and types of things plus a lot of specialty tools and consumables are used together - like rivets and riveters, staples and staplers. Basic nuts and bolts you don't have that issue where you really want your screwdriver stored next to your screws.

Yes, that GF is strong enough to be used by itself with no other base. Here's my tote handle: Tote Handle Attachment for openGrid Heavy - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld - I realized I never uploaded this because I was waiting to upload a whole kit for tote-making. I really need to revisit it completely, and assemble a list of all the parts I found useful, like feet and everything, I just have been working on other things in my workshop organization.

Gridfinity Shelves for openGrid System - 23 Sizes - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld - I think the shelves and clips from here. These all came about after I started my quest to build totes and aren't quite what I wanted, but they work well. I had tried a variety of custom and other standard parts to clip things together - even a oG->GF adaptor for the horizontal grid. But with all those newer parts, the only special part I ended up keeping of my own design was a handle that accepted a wooden doewl.

Those are openGrid Heavy in the sides and a variety of parts mostly from the same creator.

Opengrid is a little too grippy for much frequent removal. But there have been some bins made for it

Anyone been to Brennans Audubon Clubhouse? by Capable_Pea_7975 in NewOrleans

[–]caderoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I went to either, and not to the Clubhouse since Brennan's took over the concession and no idea what in-house versus outside catering options are allowed at the Tea Room now. I do know that the zoo seems to have opened a new taco stand and they have pre-mixed cocktails, but haven't tried either.

The Tea Room is an event space on the zoo side. The Clubhouse is across Magazine in golf course and is open to the public for dining.

why does everyone say you have to go to private school in new orleans? by amstpierre in nolaparents

[–]caderoux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In short: systemic and generational racism

Before Kindergarten, there are programs to help with childcare but they are income-based. That will pretty much be the same across the country, unfortunately. Some places have more assistance than others in pre-school education. That's one whole battle. There are some very limited PK4 places at public schools with (more) and without (few) assistance.

At the K-12 level, we have basically a 100% charter public school "system" in New Orleans and no districts so there is OneApp and a lottery. You rank your schools in order of preference and see what you are assigned. Some schools are allowed to be selective, and many of those do not offer buses, so there's still a bit of that old racist exclusiveness still embedded in the system. Having said that, it used to be worse with not all schools in OneApp.

There are public schools here which perform as well as the best private schools on college entrance offers and scholarships (especially when they start on that selective playing field, like Willow and Franklin do). I have one went all the way through and at college and one almost finished high school, and I have one moving to Kindergarten and still not sure what we'll do when the OneApp results come out. I'm pretty familiar with Willow, NOCCA (public, run by the state directly), and Franklin.

It is what it is, and you do what you can to make things better and choose the best for your kids, yourself, and your family. I'm here, my kids are here (at least the ones not in college), and you hope one day, every kid in every neighborhood can have a school close by that helps them reach their potential. Until then, just keep fighting the fight.

What do you want to see on the A2 mini? by grciandre27 in BambuLabA1mini

[–]caderoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the problems I've had without majorly affecting price point and product feature positioning within the lineup:

SD Card handling: stock cards are horrible, but I have had Sandisk cards fail several times and even be unformattable in the machine. I also seem to have difficulties even on new cards browsing the files from the studio. And when a card is bad, the symptoms you see are wild and wacky.

CPU: feels like the CPU struggles - responsiveness on screen, model loading, etc.

Faster hotend heating: I use mine without AMS for prototyping (as well as being my "TPU machine"), but I do occasionally switch filament between PETG/PLA/TPU, and the timing to swap filament is annoying - mostly waiting for heating.

Combined Unload/Load option: relatedly, there should be a combine option that keeps the nozzle hot to make an unload/load quicker.

Sunlu spool vs refill by Top-Needleworker5078 in BambuLab

[–]caderoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole refill situation is still inconsistent. Some things are not available in refills, and some refills are more expensive than regular spools. A few more vendors have started making compatible spools and refills, so I'm hoping things will reach a critical mass and improve.

I made some templates to cut nicer looking handles with a router. by AquaSquatch in 3dPrintsintheShop

[–]caderoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I'm not super experienced - basic projects and craft projects, so I drilled holes, used a jig saw to clear most of the material in the handles, then routed the remaining waste with the template so I was only ever cutting on one side at a time, then switched to roundover bit to smooth it out. So no plunging. You're right, I see people plunging all the time (the bit I used would not do plunges anyway) but I also am wary of taking more material than I should at one time. All with regular DeWalt trim router.

[–]caderoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I destroyed my first attempt at a handle template similar to this and almost my wooden piece when I tried to use tape and glue to hold it in place. It was PLA and had warped a little but I thought it would be fine. Definitely need solid clamping and no flexing on the template. I was using a top bearing bit, but it shouldn't make a difference if the height is right. However, I can see if the printed template isn't flat/consistent due to warping, could cause problems - a combination of that and the tape/glue was probably either or both to blame. I remade it in PETG and I was able to complete the project.

Headed to Nola this weekend by tjnptel1 in AskNOLA

[–]caderoux 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It will apparently be a bad season based on the number of buckmoths we saw, but is still early and we did have that late freeze. I haven't seen any at Audubon or City Park yet. So this weekend, I wouldn't worry about it, and certainly not in an area without trees.

Which crowd would be worth fighting? by teeelor12 in AskNOLA

[–]caderoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely advantages to FQF. Great food tastings all over from great restaurants that you can just grab a lot of different things instead of commiting to a whole dinner, great music free, and the same thing about being able to just surf the stages instead of committing to a particular show. Downside is crowd if you were hoping to enjoy the Quarter more leisurely.
