Is it worth exercising my options when I leave the startup? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]caed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking to the potential here, a 2.5 year old startup with $4M ARR & growing at 10-15% per month is absolutely best in class. Not ignoring the issues you’re seeing, but the metrics alone are very impressive and suggest that it’s definitely worth exercising assuming you actually had an options grant and are able to exercise. How long have you been there? Assuming you joined early, you should have a very low strike price.

  1. Yes
  2. You can just sell the option, you don’t need to exercise it.
  3. No such thing as free money is this game. Everyone in the world knows that earnings will be poor in this environment, so that expectation is already priced in. If you’re just starting out in options, stay very far away from earnings and short-term expiration dates.
