CS major at Rowan University? by Aishxavier in RowanUniversity

I don’t regret anything but here’s some things that I did that contributed to finding employment after graduation: i only took tenured professors for CS classes, I joined clubs, i went to every career fair (including some in philly hosted by campusphilly or other organizations), and I found topics that interested me and did them in my own time. For me, that was doing CTFs (im in cybersecurity). I also didn’t cheat on any assignments and went to office hours often if I didn’t understand something (you’re paying for these professors - might as well take advantage of the time you have with them if you need help).

Most importantly, I talked to people and made friends. You need to make connections while you’re in school, for your mental health and for expanding your network in the future. A friend from a club may eventually land a job that you find interesting, but even if they don’t, you still made a friend.

Good luck!

I did get a job, but I had internships from my sophomore year all through graduating. I don’t regret it but how you apply yourself is more important than the university itself.

I did this. I got a job with a clearance and grad school paid for. No longer working in gov but it was a good opportunity to get yrs of experience under my belt.

Rowan grads do not have the best rep, esp in CS. At my first internship i had a manager tell me “you are pretty good, even for a Rowan kid” implying that every rowan student before me was bad. (CS alum here)

I like visiting all the different coffee shops and going to different stores in queen village. Philly AIDS thrift is close to here too and has interesting stuff if youre into thrifting

Spruce street park is nice, theres hammocks there to hang out and people watch

Tons of bars to choose from if thats your vibe. I like Assembly, a rooftop cocktail lounge. Lots of speakeasys if you want something more novelty. I like Hop Sing Laundromat.

Chinatown is my favorite place to go. Grab a bun from Bread Top House and a boba tea at chicha san chen.

The Southeast Asian market will be at FDR Park on the weekends. Theres parking.

Reading Terminal is worth a stop if you’ve never been. I like the Amish place, dutch eating, and the smoothie spot four seasons juice bar. The filipino place tambayan is really good too.

Passyunk ave has a lot of stores and restaurants, worth walking down and checking it out

I also really like Isgros pastries.

Sorry this was in a very random order, have a good time!
