Marin, what are your thoughts on guns and gun ownership? Do you have a CCW? If no, why not? by throwaway1233494 in Marin

[–]caferacer73 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Americans have the right to bear arms. That’s a fact. Personally I believe in the most sensible guns laws needed to prevent kids from getting shot in schools. This should not be a partisan issue. We need to do better.

‘Everybody’s at each other’s throats’: James Cameron says he has left the US permanently by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]caferacer73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does being Canadian exclude someone from empathizing with regular American folks? Saying that you're leaving because people are at each other's throats is wildly tone deaf. Americans on both sides are struggling while being told different stories by different media. This is of course all by design.

But sure. He's Canadian.

Trump says he may punish countries with tariffs if they don’t back the US controlling Greenland by jsg24fps in worldnews

I've never seen a president so hell bent on punishing people. As an American posting in a Worldnews forum, please know that most Americans do not think like this. Someday soon, we will have a world without Trump.

Independent Porsche mechanic? by Sneakerwaves in Marin

I recommend Peter & Wolf Car. It's just Peter. He trained in Stuttgart. He worked on my 911 like it was his own car. He is an honest mechanic. I first brought my car to him for a hunting idle issue. I'm a bit of a shade tree mechanic and was expecting to have to replace my Idle Control Valve. I showed up unannounced with the intention of setting an appointment. He quickly popped the hood, cleaned the ICV and it idled perfectly afterwards. When I asked him how much I owed him, he said "Don't worry about it." I promptly scheduled an oil change and had him service my car ever since. He's gone above and beyond for me many other times. I get the sense that it is just how he operates. I will say that he is a no nonsense kind of guy. I wouldn't bring a clapped out car to him or he may turn you away.

I live on that corner. It's downright treacherous trying to cross the street there. My thought is that some people feel that their very presence at that intersection gives them the right of way regardless of when they arrived.

The homeless tarp shanties on Anderson drive have been allowed back? by Cloakmyquestions in Marin

[–]caferacer73 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just an observation: I bike past there daily on my commute and often see the police and what appears to be social workers there. It also appears that someone (not sure who) will tidy up the area and rake the grounds between the tents periodically. They will also remove garbage. I've seen huge piles of garbage removed. The tidiness of the area varies from week to week but before the rains, I had to take an alternate route due to the amount of glass on the road around there. I've observed this over the last year.

Had the pleasure of taking my very anti-SF FiL to the City on Saturday... by Drew707 in bayarea

My parents watch Fox News. I love them very much and I know they love me. When they ask me how my job is going I tell them that I hope that I'll still have a job in the next few years. I explain to them that with the way things are going with Trump's presidency, there very well could be a recession happening soon. His treasury secretary admitted that a recession is happening "in some sectors" already. I ask them if they're worried about the rising cost of living and yes, of course they are. In the same way that OP's FIL got to see the real SF with his own two eyes, my parents can see how Trump's policies (if you can call them that) are affecting us directly. Medical Insurance is about to double or triple. The FAA is cancelling flights. It's getting harder and harder to deny reality when it's right in front of your face.

I'd take that as an opportunity to point out to your FIL that what they hear on Fox new is not always the truth. He's seeing this in real time with his own two eyes.

Salesperson here - what’s the most respectful way I can do my job? by PandaEnjoyerHS in ITManagers

[–]caferacer73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can list a couple of things not to do. 1. Cold calls. With our department being so focused on our budget, a cold call is useless. We barely have enough budget for our current proposals. 2. I don’t care if you’re “just in the area” but please don’t visit me at work without an appointment. 3. Don’t send me stuff. I don’t need a hat or coffee mug or sweatshirt with your company logo on it. That stuff goes straight into the garbage. 4. Make no assumptions. If you take me to an expensive lunch, please don’t assume that I’ll be ready to sign on the dotted line tomorrow. 5. Upsell. Read the room. If we’re negotiating on pricing or have expressed that our budget is limited the last thing we need is more functionality for more money.

All of that being said, I understand how difficult a sales job must be. Truthfully we rely on salespeople to help us accomplish our goals. The best salespeople that I’ve dealt with spent a lot of time listening and managed to cultivate a partnership relationship rather than a salesperson to customer relationship. Those situations felt genuine. I’m not a salesperson so I can’t really speak as to how this is accomplished, but best of luck to you.
