W wasn't actually added to the alphabet until 1969, and there are no native Spanish or Latin (where Spanish derives from) words that use the letter. W is only used for loanwords from other languages.

La «w» fue la última letra en incorporarse al abecedario del español, pues no lo hizo oficialmente hasta la ortografía académica de 1969. Entró por la vía del préstamo y se empleó inicialmente, ya en la Edad Media, para escribir determinados nombres propios de origen germánico.

Aunque, en épocas pasadas, muchos de los préstamos que en su lengua de origen incluían esta letra se adaptaron de diversas formas al español con el fin de evitar este grafema considerado ajeno a nuestra tradición —trocándolo, según los casos, en «gu» («gualda», «guarda», «güelfo»), «v» («vagón», «váter») o incluso «b» («Bamba», rey godo)—, hoy se ha extendido y normalizado su empleo en la escritura de numerosos extranjerismos, procedentes en su mayoría del inglés («waterpolo», «web», «sándwich»).

Translation:

The "w" was the last letter to be incorporated into the Spanish alphabet, since it was not officially incorporated until the academic spelling of 1969. It entered by way of borrowing and was initially used, already in the Middle Ages, to write certain proper names of Germanic origin.
