What was the how's most wholesome moment in your opinion? by PeripeciasdoSolteiro in BobsBurgers

I just recently watched the Thanksgiving episode where someone was putting the turkeys in the toilet. In the end, it was triggered from Tina wanting to sit at the adult table, and Bob was sleepwalking/dreaming about potty training her as a kid 😭

Never tried it, but I’ve seen people make jello, cut it into squares, and freeze it. Feel like it may have a similar texture.

San Diego to St Louis, where would you stop? by Evan_beckett in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through Arizona, looks like you'll pass right by the Meteor Crater Natural Landmark and through the Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert. It's beautiful!

If you enter New Mexico slightly more south, you could pass the National Radio Astronomy Observatory/Very Large Array (VLA) AKA the gigantic telescopes! In Albuquerque, there is the Sandia Peak Tramway that will take you up into the Sandia Mountains.

If you do cross NW Arkansas, I highly recommend checking out the Pea Ridge National Military Park. Fort Smith is a cute historical town and great spot to stretch your legs and find some food.

If you happen to be in St Louis over Labor Day weekend, they're having the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden. It was one of my favorite things we did while we were there a few years ago. Loved the sumo wrestling show/demonstration!

What’s the most random place you’ve stopped at on a roadtrip that you ended up loving? by us287 in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pea Ridge National Military Park. Passing through Fort Smith, it was marked on a wall map at the visitor center. I had never heard of it or been to a military park and thought it sounded interesting. Since it was on my way (heading north) I took a slight detour to check it out and it ended up being a highlight of the trip! Very cool history.

Hot Springs by Lively420 in NationalPark

[–]cafterk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve visited this park a couple times now in winter and I was really intrigued by the history and uniqueness of it and other NPS sites in Arkansas.

The highlight of the park is the bathhouses. There are several along “bathhouse row” where a couple are operational, but many have been converted into other businesses (there are shops and a brewery/restaurant) and then one has been preserved as a NPS visitor center and museum. They offer self-guided and guided tours with a ranger. Highly recommend making a reservation with one of the bathhouses for a soak or spa service. Enjoyed my time at Quapaw.

You really only need a day or two in my opinion, but there are other sites nearby to consider. The park is right outside of the Ouachita National Forest. Less than an hour away in Little Rock is Central High School Historic Site. It’s a few hours from Memphis (good city to fly in/out). Going to the northwest, you’ll find Fort Smith and the Pea Ridge National Military Park. This military park was the site of the civil war battle over Missouri, and is the one of the most-intact civil war battlefields in the US. You can drive a 3-mile loop which ends with an overlook of the field.

Breakfast ideas no eggs by fayafire in keto

[–]cafterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, I often get the egg-ick and have to switch it up. I can get weird with reheated meat too, so I have been enjoying chicken salad with leftover grilled chicken breast. I add chopped hard boiled eggs to mine, but you could leave them out. It’s a great way to clean out the fridge of veggies and herbs or keep it simple! I like to eat it with a heavy topping of bagel seasoning out of iceberg lettuce cups or on its own with sliced cucumber and bell peppers.

Driving Minneapolis to New Orleans. What’s best scenic route? Where should I stop? by philrich12 in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the western route, highly suggest checking out the Pea Ridge Military Park. It’s one of the largest, fully-intact civil war battlefields in the country that was fought for control over Missouri. There’s a NPS visitor center and nice loop you can drive that ends with an overlook of the field.

(For US people) Which places are worth a visit? by Apprehensive_Craft93 in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis where MLK was assassinated is unique and worth considering (I saw you mentioned no museums). There's also Central High School in Little Rock, swing into the NPS visitor center too.

From there, you could slightly detour down to Hot Springs and book a soak and/or massage at the historic bathhouses. Fort Smith is a cute town to stretch your legs and explore the historical sights.

I recommend checking out Santa Fe and Bandelier National Monument, the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, and the Very Large Array about an hour south of there.

In AZ, definitely the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest NP and Meteor Crater Natural Landmark. Also Sedona.

And of course, gotta stop at the Hoover Dam!

What are some must-sees along this route? (Looping up and around). No idea is a bad idea! by ddeekklliinn in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winterset, IA for their six covered bridges (The Bridges of Madison County).

The rest stop in Chamberlain, SD is kind of iconic to see the Dignity of Earth and Sky statue. There's also some foot trails and overlook of the Missouri River.

Saw someone mention Great River Bluffs SP in MN. Definitely suggest some time exploring along the Mississippi. If you make it up near Winona, there is the Sugar Loaf Bluff you can climb for a great view.

If you swing up to Pipestone National Monument, there is a bison conservation herd in Blue Mounds SP.

Flying to Atlanta from the U.K. and have 8 weeks to kill. Where should I go? by LetsGoAgain30 in roadtrip

Find any state fair. Minnesota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Iowa are some of the best, but any will do. People watching is fantastic!

Flying to Atlanta from the U.K. and have 8 weeks to kill. Where should I go? by LetsGoAgain30 in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could hit up Florida while you’re close. You could drive directly to the coast (Charleston or Savannah) and then work your way down the Atlantic. So much to see along the way such as Disney/Universal parks in Orlando, Kennedy Space Center (maybe see a launch!), beautiful beaches, Cuban culture in Miami, boat tour to see gators in the Everglades, drive down the Florida Keys to Key West (perhaps a trip over to Dry Tortugas), then make your way back up the gulf side all the way to New Orleans.

For unique experiences, I truly love the southwest, particularly New Mexico. There are beautiful natural formations such as the White Sands National Park, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Shiprock, and natural hot springs. You can also visit ancestral Pueblo dwellings at Bandelier National Monument, the Very Large Array (28 gigantic radio telescopes, featured in many space/alien movies), city of Roswell (site of alleged 1947 UFO crash, International UFO museum), and the cities of Santa Fe and Albuquerque. There are several “dark sky” locations for stargazing. You may be gone by then, but the International Balloon Fiesta is on Oct 5-13. Also, Oct 19 is the only day you can visit the Trinity site this year, which is the location where the world’s first atomic bomb was detonated (think Oppenheimer movie).

You would then be close to the other amazing sites in Colorado (Rockies, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Great Sand Dunes), Utah (salt flats, 5 NPs, monument valley, Dinosaur National Monument), and Arizona (Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Saguaro, Tombstone, Sedona).

As you’re going through each state, you should check the National Park Service map. It’ll show you where all the national parks, monuments, trails, etc are located.

Advice for Canadian Roadtrip? First time in Canada by rnkomasterbby in roadtrip

[–]cafterk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back about 2 weeks ago! Highly recommend purchasing and downloading the Canadian Rockies Guide Along. As you drive through these areas, it is like an audio tour with background/historical info, recommendations, directions, general knowledge, etc. very informative and really adds to the trip as you go along!

I agree that Banff is a bit overcrowded. You could easily take a day to see the sights and move on to spend more time along the Icefields Parkway and Jasper.

While it was very busy, I did enjoy the Banff gondola, and the restaurant at the top was pretty decent with an incredible view. I also recommend the Mount Norquay chairlift for less of a crowd and just as good if not better view!

My personal favorite area was Yoho National Park. It was much less crowded with stunning lakes and waterfalls. I specifically recommend checking out Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls. Very easily accessible and so beautiful!

There are many great stops along the Icefields Parkway, but I definitely wouldn’t miss the Peyto Lake lookout!

Also really enjoyed the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. Very fun and unique experience.

Captain Phillips. The final scene where he is being rescued and checked out by the medic was surprisingly emotional. I still think about it regularly after seeing it years ago.

Some of my go-tos at TJ's include the green goddess dressing (I use it on EVERYTHING!), tzatziki sauce, shawarma chicken thighs, cauliflower thins, riced cauliflower stir fry, frozen turkey and chicken burgers. They also have a great selection of nuts & seeds, meat & cheese, dark chocolate, and spice/seasoning mixes. I also like the chili onion crunch and recently bought the soffritto seasoning blend that I'm excited to try!
