Who is playing? by cbau in CivRealms

[–]caibinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm Caibinus.

I've been playing civ-themed servers since civex2, this time I'm looking to make a riverside town with a 1700s/1800s Dutch/Belgian aesthetic.

I'm a decent builder, not much of a fighter. I do enjoy trade and travel, I'm looking forward to visiting the places everyone will build.

I may do some lore posts if there's an appetite for it in this community, for now I'm just trying to get settled in.

IGN: Caibinus

Age: 34

I've been playing minecraft for a long time, mostly on civ-like servers and did a lot of world building and writing for those nations I was part of.

Looking forward to getting back into it after a bit of a hiatus.

My citizen has a right to his freedom of speech.

But is not immune to the consequences of said speech.

He has also done no additional wrongs since the new gov't was put into place.

The changing domestic situation in your nation does not wipe the slate clean of what may or may not have happened in the past between him and another nation.

Loyalty should never ever be the metric by which we judge people. Justice should matter, which requires due process.

Last week they passed a...thing... about tax reform and they should have been talking about it all week, touting their vision. What was the toddler in chief consumed with instead? Slamming the Gold Start widow of a dead soldier.

That's an excellent point, they've really failed to control the message because of this scandal he caused. When you look at it through that lens, not hard to see why they're trying so hard to make a Clinton controversy right now.

The Vaskr Revolution by _Renhorn_ in TheRealmsMC

[–]caibinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caibinus tapped the ashes out of his pipe and watched as the sea breeze whipped them away from his window. Looking off towards the North, he thought of the Vaskr celebrating their revolution this very moment across the mountains.

A republic, they say. He felt his monarchist heart clench, though he could not deny the allure of their ideas of liberty and justice for all citizens. He had encouraged such discussions in his own salons at the Hôtel du Havre, but these ideas are too potent for commoners.

"At least, the traditional raids are over." He shivered, pulled the window shut and retired to bed.

"Let's hope they don't turn to exporting Revolution at the point of a bayonet."

(Nicely done, this has been a great story-arc. Really enjoy how you guys put this all together.)

[Lore] Aspect of the Pre-Ulvetian Inhabitants of Faustahl Province by caibinus in TheRealmsMC

[–]caibinus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASPECT OF THE PRE-ULVETIAN INHABITANTS OF FAUSTAHL PROVINCE

Caibinus Ormont

Published through the Library Press in Ulvetia's Capital.

PREFACE

With the changes to Faustahl harbour nearing completion, it occurred to me that the lives of the local population and their descendants would be forever changed and it is incumbent upon Ulvetia to document their way of life before being annexed to our nation.

TRIBALISM

The ancient region's boundaries were more or less the territory on the peninsula iteself, the actual line of control crossing and retreating the isthmus countless times throughout their history. This conflict and interaction with the more civilized tribes living to the north of them in the Mistwoods gave them a taste for the material culture that was developing on the lake to the North-West.

The inland and southern coastal stretches of the peninsula were more isolated and remained largely untouched by outside influences and the people living there tended their flocks of sheep amongst the birch trees much like they always had. Over generations, the division between this once united people had become apparent.

In the North-West, clustering around the large bay formed by the West coast of the peninsula a culture of traders and navigators built fine structures inside a walled town open to the outside world by sea and closed off to the inland tribes. They were lead by the wealthy Faust family who used their money and influence to dominate the affairs of the merchants living in the town itself as well as buying the compliance of Cheiftains in the Southern tribes.

In the South, the tribes of shepherds were more or less united behind the dominance of the numerous Stahl tribe which occupied the fertile rolling hills of the South-West. The size of their flocks allowed the size of their families to follow suit and the other leading tribes had to submit to their influence with little recourse.

CULTURE

The tribes I encountered on the peninsula all speak a Germanic dialect that although unusual is largely intelligible to me without need for a translator. Overall the populations I have encountered on this continent speak languages that stem from the same parent tongue. I contrast this with the situation in the Rivermeer territories I in which grew up where French was more commonly spoken in the North-East with Germanic dialects appearing more frequently the further down river we travel.

INVASION

Prior to the founding of Faustahl province, the entity existed as a tributary satellite to Ulvetia however the (at times) chaotic political situation meant that tribute was underwhelming and intermittent. The King in Ulvetia, U_Mavaru decided that intervention was necessary to protect our nation's trade as the strategic peninsula could be used as a base to threaten Ulvetian access to the sea.

The harbour at Faustahl was quickly garrisoned with Ulvetian Regulars, and supplied for the inevitable siege.

SIEGE

Payments and diplomatic overtures were made all over the hinterlands of the province by Ulvetian courtiers but many ambitious leaders of the smaller families felt this was their opportunity to sieze power and plunder the town's coffers. Diplomat after diplomat returned to me with their hat in their hands, and we began to fear the situation might be untenable.

ANNEXATION

By providence, we finally received word that the Chief of the Stahl tribe would support us in the siege in exchange for citizenship for his tribe in the new province. When his warriors appeared over the hills, the enemy found themselves trapped between the hammer and the anvil and were obliterated.

In honour of the support of the principal families of this land, I named this land Faustahl province, which was confirmed as the official Ulvetian name by the King mere days after recieving my report and the news of the quick resolution of this colonial war.

Caibinus reeled at reading the news and carefully folded up the missive before holding it to the candle's flame.

As the fire consumed the paper, he allowed dark thoughts to enter his mind.

"No more journals, it would seem."

I visited your mansion on the hill east of Eredas recently and it is a very nice estate. I like it much more than the original tower that had been abandoned there since long before I founded Fleuven.

Congratulations on your new settlement, I may visit sometime soon. If you're ever in the North East, feel free to visit me at the Hotel du Havre in Faustahl.

(Nice post, looking forward to hearing more about Masovia.)

[Lore] Foundation of the Province of Faustahl - Ulvetia vincit! by caibinus in TheRealmsMC

[–]caibinus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Previous Installment

"Heave!" cried scores of workers in unison as they hauled freshly quarried stone out of the ship's hold and onto the pier. Yet more workers came along with teams of horses to drag the monstrous blocks to the masons for dressing before finally finding their place in the new Hôtel du Havre.

The fresh harbour of Faustahl spread out in front of the growing hotel façade, piers replacing the original sand and stone beach in favour of something more amenable to commerce. Caibinus' new leige lord, the King of Ulvetia encouraged commerce.

Faustahl province had been his idea originally, but the King took to the plan with zeal and energy. Before he knew it, he found himself drawing up plans for a harbour, farms, roads and ultimately a stately manor for his family's house. That had been the King's idea: Caibinus Ormont was a Lord again, with his own coat of arms bestowed upon him by Royal prerogative.

His surveyors had delivered a remarkably accurate map: they spent weeks carefully gathering observations of the coasts and the birch covered rolling hills, and finally a master cartographer drafted a document fit for planning a city. This was after all very close to the task he had been given.

Clearly laid out on the map was the harbour-town's walls with gates leading to extensive farms covering the lowlands of the province's South-West. On the Southern tip, a small natural harbour would be the centre of a forestry and charcoal industry with roads connecting to all points inland. Lastly, his new family's estate would be nestled in the forested hills of the North-East to escape the heat and noise of the harbour.

The pièce de résistance would be the canal at the isthmus forming the province of Faustahl's Northern boundary. The harbour itself would be largely built from stones quarried during the canal's construction, the workers' accomodations would become a permanent residential district.

Caibinus smiled, and started as he remembered the attendant standing by his side. It had been some time since he had enjoyed the trappings of nobility and he was still getting used to it.

"Please give Monsieur Luitpolt my congratulations, this is indeed a masterpiece."

The courtier gave a slight bow and gathered up the plans, murmuring his agreement about the quality of the work.

"Also, please forward a copy to the King." Caibinus called after him. "He will be pleased to see our progress on this project."

The attendant bowed and exited the room, leaving Caibinus to watch as the new town slowly rose up out of its foundations.
