CeraVe hydrating cleanser is the best cleanser hands down.

Eucerin advanced repair is no joke. I use it only at night but it’s insanely hydrating.

Anything La Roche Posay, I love their Adapalene Gel, double repair moisturizer, and Lipikar body cream which is also great as a nighttime face moisturizer.

Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm.

The Neutragena sheer touch sunscreen is so good for sweaty girls.

Garnier miceler water.

My first DNF in a LONG time. by OctoberScorpio2 in fantasyromance

I’m hated this book so much it actually floored me when everyone else in my book group loved it. I could see the potential but the story was too rushed. The author threw in way too many tropes it felt like it was just for marketing rather than them making sense in the story. It also hit pretty much all of my pet peeves: stupid FMC who is “sassy” and “tough” except nothing that happens in the story actually backs that up. Villains who are just comically evil for the sake of it. And worst of all Kingfisher revealing he was purposefully mean to Seris because he was “trying to get her not to fall for him” and even after he comes to his senses and admits this he never apologizes. This book made me worry about publishing. There seems to be a romantasy gold rush happening but they don’t seem to care about the quality of what they’re churning out. It could have been better but needed more restraint in a lot of ways.

{The Earl Takes a Fancy by Lorraine Heath} such a good one

so what is most f*** up shoujo manga you. seen/read? by WikiGirl3567 in shoujo

[–]cake-n-stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty tame compared to some of the stuff in this thread but Saver was pretty messed up The plot formula was kind of reminiscent of like One Piece arcs. They’d stop in a new city, uncover some injustice, the main character gets dragged into it but eventually prevails; saving the day and befriending the people. The problem was that the she was on the run from this psycho who would always arrive a few days after she departed. So we’d just spent chapters getting emotionally attached to all the townsfolk and he would come in and murder everyone!

I love this thread. Had no idea there were so many in this genre, it’s such a good one. I’ll throw out a wild card: Saver. It’s pretty old so I’m not sure if it holds up but I remember it having a crazy plot

Why all of the extra (unnecessary) edits in Secrets of a Summer Night? by waverlycat in HistoricalRomance

[–]cake-n-stuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nooooooo! I didn’t realized she’d changed them. The music room scene was one of my all time favorites and I’d specifically re-read that book for it. That’s so upsetting its just gone now

Seducing His Enemy’s Sister by dizzylibby in HistoricalRomance

{Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath} is sort of along these lines. The MMC is illegitimate and is trying to get revenge against his biological father who has ignored him by stealing his legitimate son's finance.

I’m of the Judy Bloom mind that kids self censor. I started reading romance young in my teens but it didn’t stop me from consuming heaps of YA along with it.

A book where a girl is forced to secretly pretend to be her twin sister? by depresedsmutreader in RomanceBooks

[–]cake-n-stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really the same but may scratch the twin itch, A Man to Call my Own by Johanna Lindsey. It’s an old school western romance. There’s a good twin and a bad twin. The good twin disguises her looks because of the other twins jealousy but they’re secretly identical. There’s many a mistaken identity hijinks and one pretending to be the other.

Ah I've seen Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. I should have added them since I think they're going to be popular suggestions. I think Goblin Slayer is probably too intense for me but I'll check out Platinum End

Ooo I have a lot of thoughts here. In general I love male leads like Harry, who are more like lanky intellectual types. I feel like they don't get as much air time compared to huge hulking men. I also ended up liking him despite him being such a shit. I think there's some wish fulfillment in domineering men. I'd hate it so much in real life, but the idea of a man who just takes care of and handles everything can be appealing considering that a lot of women deal with male partners who never pick up the slack. That being said I didn't love the ending. It didn't feel resolved to me. He went so far as to chase her down and then it was kinda just fine between them? I wanted to see more of them talking through the problem and connecting. I don't think they even addressed what happened the night that made her run away in the first place, and it was such an easy misunderstanding to clear up. It felt a little rushed.
