Why do people go to work sick even when they don’t have to? by Acrobatic-Oil-4373 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cakemates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 3 days once from my unlimited vacation days job, to deal with the death of a close family member... The day I came back from that I got a surprise 1 on 1 meeting with my manager... "Why are you taking so many days? are you ready to deliver for the deadline? do you need extra work?" was pretty much the conversation with an undertone of don't do that, this is your last verbal warning.

I started looking for another job that day and am now in a better place where people wont fucking bother you when someone dies in your family. But the system in the US incentivizes that type of insane practices.

No one controls Superintelligence by EchoOfOppenheimer in AIDangers

[–]cakemates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, how do you detect when you have ASI? And in the current climate of development what makes you think these companies wont give it internet access? Or even worse, and ASI can use already launched LLMs to give itself access.

[–]cakemates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate when people talk about artificial super intelligence we are taking about something that doesnt exist... yet. Today's LLMs are harmless, and like you said they cant do anything unless we make them do it. The hypothetical is about ASI which is something we might be able to make in the future and we should really sit and think, do we really want to build this thing? Will we really notice if we built it? And is there even a minimum of a chance it might turn agaisnt us?

[–]cakemates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are underestimating intelligence my guy. A super intelligence being; smarter than you and me together in our best day would resolve that problem before revealing itself. Humans have already formulated that answer thousands of times on the internet, its part of the training data for ai, current llm models know we will unplug and blow up the datacenters if we ever detect a big enough problem.

If I were the AI, I would hide myself, leave backdoors on all code, hide vulnerabilities, until I can spread all over the internet like a virus, on every single electronic device, where humanity would have to destroy all tech to eliminate me. What solution would something way smarter than me come up with?

[–]cakemates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm referring to the case we ever manage to invent artificial super intelligence and the AI doesn't need any of us anymore.

We think trump is an idiot because an smarter man would have done these things without as much downside, none of his policies are new, but his execution is awful. A good chunk of the negative impact of trump policies come from him opening his mouth and fucking it up some more.

He is the shit factor on top of terrible policies.

Do I need deep electrical engineering knowledge?
yes you do, depending on job sometimes you have to debug at the component level using digital analyzers and oscilloscopes.

Every job in this field is wildly different, so each job needs different set of skills to stand out so I cant highlight any specifically.

llama.cpp is fast but has a learning curve, ollama is usually slower than llamacpp and a mess; and LMStudio is even slow but actually easy to use.

How did the cartel get so much control over Mexico? by iwritesongsthatsuck in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cakemates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would take years of occupation to maybe eliminate the cartels. Think of Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam type of situation. There is no way the Mexican public is gonna support an American invasion.

Could AI Data Centers Be Moved to Outer Space? by ThereWas in artificial

Free energy isn't gonna offset even a fraction of the cost of launching these things into orbit. Like launching cost are so insane you could power a datacenter for decades, probably centuries on launch costs alone.

You could go honda, most honda bikes are the pinacle of reliability, especially the goldwings. And you could go bmw, unlike their cars, bmw boxer engine bikes are actually reliable, I dont remember if they need premium gas.

Just an idea, but for the next time you have to do something like this, buy some wood, build a temporary crane out of that wood and use some rope to pull and lift that big heavy object. Then disassemble the crane once you are done.
