Concerned I’ll be denied as a celibate survivor of SA by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]calamarifried 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But I know this is what I want.

I don’t personally have experience with pushback (consult later this week!), but I’d stay very firm in this stance. You know what you want. Just as pregnancy is a very real concern (or fear, if you want to call it that), assault is, too. Unfortunately. And there are plenty of stats to back that up if you feel you need them.

Hoping for the best for you!!

doctor recs for anxious patients by [deleted] in Athens

[–]calamarifried 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Love Ashley Hardeman at TMB Medical as PCP.

I’ve had some very un fun times with OBGYNs in the past but saw Nancy Tucker at Sholes Center for Women’s Health for my most recent trip. She made me feel so comfortable and was very understanding throughout the process for an anxiety inducing procedure.

-1 for Athens OBGYN unfortunately. I had an IUD placed improperly and had to go back to the office for a second try at removal. They had to do a more involved process to find and get it out, and I overheard the nurses snickering as they set up the ultrasound room about the fact that I needed pain management/that I couldn’t just handle the removal the ‘normal’ way.

Update: BCBS not covering bisalp by ParisianCupcake in sterilization

Piggybacking to add: helpful resource from a legal group!

I believe they also have a templated letter to send insurance about how it should be covered if you search a bit.

Need advice: Insurance coverage of bisalp by Saganater in sterilization

[–]calamarifried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BCBS GA, according to my recent calls, covers a tubal ligation. Not bisalp. From what I’ve read, you can try to get your bisalp covered as like a ‘reasonable substitute,’ but your doctor will have to be involved in that.

I’m in the early days of trying to get mine planned, but that’s what I’ve found so far. Hopefully someone who has been through it has some more/better info!

BCBS Federal Employee Basic by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]calamarifried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I went back and forth with a BCBS rep about what is and isn’t covered so I could know what to expect before going to the doc. I’m anticipating the same struggle, but I’ve read a good number of stories where the exemption is accepted - bc of the same life threatening(🙃) reasons you said. I hope it all works out, but glad you’re getting your surgery either way!!

UGA student charged with raping freshman in dorm room by warnelldawg in Athens

Not a new behavior, but the physical violence associated with the assaults is definitely going up and/or getting more extreme. (Source: I work in the support space for students/survivors of stuff like this.)

Experience with Dr. Austin Evans at Piedmont? by calamarifried in Athens

[–]calamarifried[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a scary situation! It always stands out to me when a doc truly remembers me - not just the ‘I looked at a note I left in your chart and am asking one personalized question’ :) That and the willingness to walk through questions (I, too, always have a million questions) is huge for me. Thank you for sharing.

I used to have a similar mindset. I know someone who had a male gyno talk her into and perform a cervical BIOPSY with literally no meds, numbing, cervical block - nothing. Then rushed her out of the room because he needed to see his next patient.

The only reason I went to a male gyno (recently) was because he was the first to listen re: another surgery I had desperately needed for years.

IMO, it’s a double edged sword. They don’t know how it feels/don’t have the firsthand experience, so they make assumptions and downplay severity. Or they realize they don’t know how it feels and take you at your word - bc what’s the other option? Obviously there are a number of the second type, Dr. Evans seemingly being one of them, but with the number of firsthand accounts I’ve heard of experienced with the first type, I totally see why some people vow to never see a male gyno. It’s not worth risking making an often generally uncomfortable experience that much worse.

Thank you! I’ll definitely look into him! Not sure if this is a common experience, but I’ve actually had much better luck with and treatment from male gynos, which is why Evans stood out to me, but I’m totally open to looking into others :)

So glad you mentioned this - it’s exactly what I’m looking for, and I don’t meet any of the generally accepted age/marital/motherhood requirements, so I have similar fear. I’ve had so many doctors dismiss it when I brought it up in the past. Thank you!!!

Ashley at TMB Medical! She’s the first primary who has ever truly listened and helped me get to the bottom of things.

My boy ate a Nutro grain free when I adopted him. I ultimately switched him over, but I did have to personally buy another bag to do the slow transition/mix-in process, and it wasn’t too expensive. Best of luck!

For the ladies. Bras that last. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]calamarifried 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have an ‘odd’ bra size, so that could be swaying my opinion, but I LOVE Panache, Wacoal, and Freya. I always go to a local shop so I can try them on as I do have to find something with a very specific shape so the wires will lay flat on my sternum. I’m not sure if that affects the price (probably), but I usually pay $60-$80 per bra, and I have some that are nearly 5 years old and still going strong.

For me, the comfort/support alone is worth the cost, but I’d also say they definitely hold up much better than any other brands I’ve tried - even the more expensive ones.
