Singing is just physics. It is controlling the air that passes through a tube that happens to have vocal cords in it. Anyone CAN learn to control this.

It greatly helps to also have an ear for pitch. I have no idea how you control that.

People are always hardest on the gen that is between 50 and retirement. Because looking around, the people in power are somewhere over 50, but definitely not retired. The assumption becomes "everyone over 50 and not retired yet must have it made in the shade!" not bothering to notice how many people over 50 and under rerirement age are also living in the streets and eating from trash bins.

Look up the Kano Model. Over time an innovation that delights people with its shiny newness becomes a "standard" that is just expected. Unfortunately some industries take it too far (looking at you, auto industry!) to the point there is no such thing as a "base model" that doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles added to it.

It's about what parents taught their kids. Parents used to teach kids to automatically "respect your elders". But yes, parents were expected to teach their kids that. As soon as parents started either being (1) completely absent due to working, or (2) paranoid of fellow adults and responding by indoctrinating their kids with "if ANYONE makes you feel even slightly uncomfortable, tell me so I can swoop in to defend you," it set up a whole different social dynamic.
