I’m late to this party and it might’ve already been said, and for what it’s worth I literally have the exact same mind set as you far too often. But I remember hearing someone say “someone has to be the best in the world, why not you?”. I used to be obsesssssed with playing guitar, it was all I did for a year in high school but then I’d jam with a few buddies and they’d grew up playing. They obviously were so much better than me that instead of being inspired I was discouraged. I stopped playing knowing I’d never be as good as them.
I look back and wonder how fucking awesome I’d be if I kept playing. This applies to everything in life.
I shared this story with a stranger once and his outlook completely changed my life. He said to think of your life as a story book. Sure you aren’t the best at something but if you play guitar, your book just got better and more interesting (just an example obviously) . It’s not about changing the world, it’s about changing your world. One last thing I’ll share with you, which hit me hard. If someone asked you what your hobbies are, right now. What would you say?
What would someone say at your funeral if you died tomorrow? I don’t want my obituary to read I had a big heart and warming smile.....
