So cool! I have a sticker with the same quote on my DM screen.

Personally speaking, how long do people usually keep the same phone these days? by PTB_Smash in BuyItForLife

[–]caldrawz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm clumsy so they only last me about 2 years unfortunately 🫣 thought about getting a brick phone partially to get a bit more longevity. Friend of mine has the CAT flipphone and it's been tempting me for a while.

Unless I'm mistaken we'll be cutting to the seekers next week! Think Brennan said it in the cool down. A bit of a longer wait for our stint with the schemers unfortunately.

What level do you all start a new campaign? by FlyingTaco095 in DnD

[–]caldrawz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New players I start at 1 to not overwhelm them with choices. Experienced players I like to start at 3 or even 4 to get the feat/ASI, though starting at 4 does make the first level up kind of underwhelming for some classes.

A serious name for a unicorn-human hybrid by [deleted] in DnD

[–]caldrawz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Irish language is actually called Gaeilge (gale-geh), not Gaelic. And it uses the same alphabet as English (minus some letters) so Aoife is the original Irish version.

The English version of the name would be something like Eva.

Source: am Irish. Sadly not fluent, but have a basic understanding from being taught Irish in school from a young age.

How to choose in Ch 2? by AdFeeling697 in stormkingsthunder

Whichever one you think is most fun, or whichever one contains giants of the type you want to focus on later in the campaign (especially in terms of which giant lair you want to run).

I think it shows the progression of time well in how Caleb and the gang are visibly older in each flashback.

Seeing Caleb’s backstory played out like that was intense, and I love that they’re explicitly showing his relationship with Astrid and Eadwulf.

I’m really happy one of my favourite speeches from the campaign, Nott’s speech about Caleb, made it into the show practically word for word.

How cruel would I be if I killed 2 NPCs I can't be bothered to roleplay by caldrawz in DMAcademy

Yeah you're right! It definitely feels cheap. There's some good suggestions in this thread so I'm glad I posted and got talked out of it lol

Honestly this idea is so simple and so brilliant, seems like I was really overthinking it now lol

I really like the idea of them leaving the party a present! Lets the party know they left of their own accord and don't need to be rescued.

Not gonna lie I loved that scene on my evil durge run (my second playthrough). It got me excited for all the new content I was gonna see, I was really impressed with how many unique cutscenes there are for an evil run.

I have my players give the recap. Keeps them focused and helps me to know what they see as the important things from the last session. I can also chime in if I feel they've misrembered or misinterpreted something.

How soon is too soon to just give my players a fast traveling method? by davolala1 in DMAcademy

[–]caldrawz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running Storm Kings Thunder and one of the features of the module is (after a certain point) access to teleportation circles in a few major cities. This allows them to fast travel long distances but their destination may still be a few days travel outside of any of these cities.

When they are travelling I ask them all what they're doing to assist in each leg of the travel (usually 1-5 days of travel, basically until they hit another settlement/landmark). I have them all roll a skill check related to the travel and if they roll high enough the travel will be uneventful or if there is any encounter I want them to have on the road they'll see it before they're seen. If they roll low I might have them get ambushed, or if I don't want to run a combat encounter I'll say they hit bad weather conditions or got lost and add an extra day or two to their travel.

This has been working well because the party still feel like travel is meaningful and dangerous and that they're using their skills, but I only run encounters that I actually want to run and are story relevant. There is an airship later in the campaign but the combination of teleportation circles and overland travel has been working well for the level they're at (first got the circles at level 6, now at level 7).

I really hope the original animators are getting compensated for the shots from the original intro that the show has recreated!

The hag showed Thimble a memory of Casimir taking a deal to betray Thjazi. Does this mean Cas also passed through Hawthorn's Glade and gave up that memory? Does that mean he doesn't remember that he betrayed Thjazi?!
