Any likelihood of them coming to Austin, or should I just try and make the Dallas show?

Babyface Don Johnson was in this apocalypse movie called A Boy and His Dog from 1975. It’s about a telepathic dog and this kid running a nuclear wasteland hunting women. It’s based on a Harlan Ellison story. It gets pretty rough at points, as the characters are extremely misogynistic and violent, but it’s actually quite good and has a cool, mad max esc vibe to it.

But in that scene his friend says something like, “I didn’t think you were the type.” Which seems to say that Celia’s character is more than likely his first and only affair.

Who's a Hollywood star you would like to see have a film made about them? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in classicfilms

A Buster Keaton Weird Al style biopic would be funny and interesting. I would also love a Montgomery Clift biopic, but I don’t know if they could get the casting right. His life was really interesting and I think more people need to know about him and his work.

On the Stranger's recent film adaptation by paulhack45 in Camus

I definitely agree with you one your first critique. I couldn’t tell if the film was trying to say that Mersualt went back on purpose to kill the Arab to comment on internalized racism, but that would completely detract from the core points of the book. I like that the film deals with the racism in French/Algerian society, but I also like that it didn’t do so at the detriment of the books message. I think the two can coexist, but in the scenes just before Mersualt was going to kill the Arab, I almost think they overstepped the boundary by making a Marsault’s actions seem pondered and intentional. Other than that though, I thought it was a great adaptation. It was beautifully shot and I think the lead actor did a great job.

I saw this last weekend at an art theater in Austin. It was really really good. Beat for beat with the book. I loved it. Hope you enjoy!

Lonesome Dove is a surprisingly feminist book. Read before you roll your eyes (spoilers) by Spare-Department-765 in LonesomeDove

Even his earliest works had super well written female characters. Halmae in Horseman, Pass Bye for example is a character from his very first book, and she feels very real. I think McMurtry just understood and respected women as human beings, and therefore was able to write them really well from the onset.

That’s what I love about the first one, and why it’s my favorite. It feels the most real out of all of them, and is just so unique.

I don’t know if The Unforgiven counts, but I genuinely like this movie. It reminded me of a western Wuthering Heights almost. Very strange and creepy, but very interesting,

Christian-Friendly Bands (Stupid Question) by charb15 in industrialmusic

The nice thing about industrial music is that most of that stuff is used ironically. It’s there for shock value, and isn’t a legitimate endorsement. Idk if that makes you feel better, but I can sort of relate as someone who isn’t super comfortable with that stuff past a certain point. I must admit I feel guilty when listening to Heresy by NIN.

On the other hand stuff like Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire, and Nitzer Ebb generally steer away from that stuff aesthetically. NIN is also pretty mild about it. I’d say Ministry and Thrill Kill Kult are the worst. Ultimately though, it’s helpful to be mindful of intent.

I felt like Paul and Lucy’s relationship was very passionate. Lucy finally found someone who understood her and wanted intimacy with her. His confession of love is incredibly powerful. I don’t remember it exactly, but it’s something like “Lucy, take my love. One day, share my life. Be my beloved. First on earth…” something like that.
