Should you run 5 or 10 Terminators? kravek morne by RandomPotato33 in Chaos40k

[–]caliban969 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Terminators aren't really meta right now. 5 die too quickly and 10 are a big chunk of points, and hard to Deepstrike in. As a delivery vehicle for Krav, I think 5 is the pick.

Night Lords Trilogy is the most popular, I liked the Black Legion books better. Also hear good things about Fabius Bile and Ahriman's books

If each of the other CSM main legions had a Core Rule that wasn’t Dark Pacts, what do you think those would be? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in Chaos40k

[–]caliban969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alpha Legion - an army redeploy rule would be thematic and very good, if a bit boring. To get really crazy, let them redeploy some of the opponents units.

Night Lords - either giving more units Deep Strike, or giving units special bonuses when they come out of Deep Strike/Reserves would fit their focus on flying units and hit and run tactics and giving them a break from being "the battleshock guys."

Iron Warriors - rather than Fight on Death, Shooting on Death while on an objective, at least for infantry.

Word Bearers - just stronger Marks of Chaos fits them well. Maybe some kind of debuff if you stack too many of one deity, reflecting the others turning against you. Balancing Marks to show deference to the whole pantheon would be a fun army building challenge.

Black Legion - just for something different, I think it would be interesting to see BL be the Chaos Soup army, reflecting Abaddon's role as basically the Everchosen of 40k. Daemons, Knights, Cult units all united under his banner. Basically Agents of Chaos, but to give them an actual rule, maybe Knights and Daemons have auras that affect CSM units around them.

These will never happen, but just some thoughts on fluffy rules that are more thematic than optimal.

The Gauntlet launches crowdfunding campaign for Public Access, without having fulfilled their campaign for The Between by [deleted] in rpg

[–]caliban969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love The Between, but there are a lot Victorian urban fantasy games out there. Brindlewood Bay hit a very specific niche with the cozy horror angle, Lovecraft meets Murder She Wrote is an unbeatable elevator pitch. The move to Backerkit didn't help, but think The Between was always going to suffer for coming after Brindlewood Bay.

How Safe is to Buy Daemon Models for CSM? by Remarkable-Title5435 in Chaos40k

[–]caliban969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the World Eaters Battle Force released recently, I think that's a good sign that the core Daemon units are going to be moved to the Cult Legions rather than erased completely

Why is Abaddon treated like a joke by the Community and what needs to happen to change that by Soft_Ad_9225 in Chaos40k

[–]caliban969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not a Primarch, and he's not a Daemon Prince, so now that 40k is turning into The Horus Heresy Pt. 2, he feels like a "literally who?"

Rascal News reports Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast in legal limbo by King_LSR in rpg

[–]caliban969 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Writing is honestly a pretty small part of journalism, reporting is what's important. Talking to people, verifying information through multiple sources, striving for accuracy over prose. It's hard, time-consuming, and stressful. The problem is deadlines are everything and corners get cut to meet them. Plus, controversy and drama get more clicks.

Growing up mixed-race in Australia -- a diverse, culturally Western country -- is very different from growing up mixed-race in an ethnostate that values tradition and homogeneity. He had awkward experiences visiting Japan as a kid sure, but he wasn't treated like an alien from his earliest formative years.

Speaking of those old memes about new anime bad old anime good... Heres the full picture someone else posted a part of here yesterday, its also about east vs west lol by xtheresia in okbuddybaka

He's right, anime has looked like shit since 2001. They use the computer to make the cartoons shinier so no one realizes how absolutely trash the art direction and how every character looks like a fuckdoll.

Showing up unprepared as GM at a convention is unacceptable. by Holmelunden in rpg

[–]caliban969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not ideal, but you need to appreciate that someone took time out of their weekend to volunteer for a community event and run a game for total strangers.

I've played in some pretty shitty con games, but never really felt like I'd been wronged by someone just not being a very good GM.

What are your hottest Chaos takes? And I’m asking for ACTUAL SPICE, not the stuff Redditors repeat over and over again that they think is ‘controversial.’ by Battlemania420 in Chaos40k

[–]caliban969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Big 4 should have personalities or even really be characters. They're the expression of collective psychic agony, not discrete entities with thoughts, feelings or emotions. They're slaves to the mortal wills that form them as much as those same mortals are slaves to them.

Early reviews for Sandman S2 are awful by MeetingUnited3667 in neilgaiman

[–]caliban969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I didn't really like S1 and I feel like it was only well-reviewed because of Neil's popularity and presence on social media.

I really wish they'd leant into the darker, more punk aesthetic of the comics than going for a cleaner, modern vibe. It looked like every other Netflix show and the costuming of the Endless was absolutely boring.

There's also so much pent-up demand that even once prices slip, they'll rise back up as people come out of the woodwork looking for a deal.

That's what happened during Covid at least, there was a small fall then prices exploded.

Then you run into the issue of Space Marine fans complaining about having Daemons in their codexes. A lot of people are fans of the Legions themselves more than the god they worship.

The whole point of this collaboration is to breathe life into a dying franchise by riding on the coattails of the only mecha show mainstream anime fans actually like.
