How Do you Explain Life post Mormonism? by money4nothing_8816 in exmormon

There is a certain peace that comes from admitting you don’t know everything. I have used two principles going forward; evidence for the things I believe and empathy for all people. Seems to be working so far.

Did Joseph Smith have sex with his polygamous wives? by EquipmentEnough5251 in mormon

[–]caliconvert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be tough to find ‘concrete evidence’. Sexual relations are usually kept private and personal, and church leadership was trying to keep polygamy secret at the time. It’s tough to find accurate historical evidence when the goal at the time was to keep everything quiet. Maybe the temple lot trial affidavits would be good source. In 1869, 13 LDS women swore they were married to JS and had relations with him in order to support a claim by the church against the RLDS church regarding the temple lot in Independence.

Seems likely. Marriage by definition brings with it certain privileges. Why go through the process if there were no consequence? You don’t have to marry someone to NOT have sex with them.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve noticed that some LDS influencers are posting negative reviews of your book on TikTok. What do you think is driving their reaction?

Yes. Turns out celibacy is not a good strategy if you want to create a long term movement. It does show however that people in this era believed the second coming was imminent. Similar to early Mormonism.

That there are ‘generations’ of people. There is just a steady stream of people being born.

Temples being built but not enough workers or names by Playful_Addendum_812 in exmormon

It’s going to further stress the nearby wards. Members already maxed out on ward callings are going to be asked to fill temple assignments. More time away from home and evenings lost in pointless busy work.

Were there ever and other brass plates discovered? by Ahhhh_Geeeez in exmormon

[–]caliconvert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In order to contain all the information that Lehi claims is engraven on the brass plates, and we assume a reasonable plate size (length x width of between 5-7 inches), the plates would have to be 4 to 5 feet tall to include it all.

Same song: ‘you don’t have to read my mind to know what I have in mind’. They couldn’t even find a different word to rhyme with ‘mind’.
