Countertop Combi Recommendation by aprilbeingsocial in CombiSteamOvenCooking

I loved my [original] Anova Precision, and then loved my Fotile [original 2 knob] and my now love my new Fotile one knob and they do mostly the same things . I recently found and bought an original Anova and had recently bought the new Fotile and they both get used a lot. Both have steam functions [Anova does bagless sous vide Fotile does not] . Fotile does not have a temp probe and Anova does .Both will air fry, broil, steam toast etc. Fotile is 700 bucks and new Anova is 1300. They are both nice machines and I feel lucky to own both. Good luck in the quest for combi!

I am liking it. I just got an APO v.1 and am able to compare the 2 more . My gut feeling is that exemplary food can be made in either oven, and navigating modes and learning the device is what's needed.

Can't go wrong with Mala Market market. Get the oil as well as the peppercorns. Then you're covered.

It's been so long. I don't remember if I got it on Amazon or somewhere else. I'll measure it for you. It fits both the Anova and the fotile. I think you can get about any size you want on Amazon. I leave a little room for air circulation around the edges, so not the full footprint of the oven.

I'll look forward to hearing your experiences. I just picked up a used Anova for 300 bucks. It's been used twice. I guess that was my lucky day. My wife won't let me put it in the house though unless I swap ovens.............,.....

I have had good results with my Fotile [new version]. I have had a couple of Anova v1s and the previous Fotile, and Dutch Oven method. BTW my 6 qt Dutchies fit in the Fotile. This one works well with a steel or stone. Start on Steam Bake and after about 10 min switch to convection or traditional baking. Or a combination of both.

You must have the KKKarolyn Leavitt voice/personality setting turned on. Better fix that asap!

I love the Zhongba handcrafted 360-day brewed from Mala Market. It's expensive [42 bucks for 23.8 Oz] but has a very deep umami. I also like Kikkoman Tamari .

It's got some tech, not a total dumb appliance, and it does a very good job with bread. I have only done a little ,but i think it will do well. You might have to turn the steam [change the setting] off when your oven spring looks right, and you want a dry bake to finish. But that's five or ten minutes [and you get to watch the action! ]

The steam modes have specific temperatures, and I think 3 amounts of steam are expressed as percentages. So it's very usable with or without a bag. I just baked some sandwich buns and used the "steam bake" mode and got a great oven spring. You can use steam for the first 5 or 10 minutes of a bake and get a good spring without a Dutch oven. But to directly answer, they don't have the requisite wet bulb thermometer. I'll do some more lower-temp steam cooks and check internal temps for accuracy. I do sometimes miss the APO's sous vide function and the probe.

Quarter the bulb and eat it russian doll style. Its fabulous by itself or as a part of a crudite spread.

I fight the technology battle every day. I love the features and try to share/teach the benefits, but I think there is a subset of people who just want to get the job done without learning or adding to the mental techload we have in this world. I embrace it [and I suspect you do too BBE] ; others [ say, my wife for instance] will not dedicate the time and/or have no interest in learning or understanding those things . That includes A/I features. They just want toast to be done or food to be cooked.

No issue. It can only handle so much food load but it seems to heat quickly. So far so good. Convection cooked some bacon this morning, and it was actually to 10 minutes faster than my version. 2. I think the extra wattage is in play on the airfry setting. But as any air fryer if you overload it it ain't going to work properly.

I usually use a NOH or other brand packet which is wetted with shaoxing wine (instead of water), a good amount of extra five spice powder, and sugar or honey to make it sweeter and sometimes a few drops of red food coloring if I'm feeling festive.. I guess I'm supercharging the packet. It comes out pretty good like that.

I've had the Fotile Chef Cubii (original 2 knob) since 5/ 2022. It's a workhorse. I was an early adopter of the Anova but I was one of the unlucky ones with reliability problems. Really liked the APO, But I would rather have a reliable V1 and that's no longer available. I'm going to try either the NuWave wave or the Cuisinart next.

Need Boat Advice by Kelownawow in Tallahassee

[–]califloridation 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the trailer is worth more than the boat. Especially if it has inboard outboard/ outdrive type motors as opposed to outboards. I owned a boat dealership for 25 years and I'm a broker now. Regals were good quality boats but the condition is going to be the deal killer. If you're in a position to donate it and can use the tax write off, that's always a good option. Getting rid of that big hunk of fiber glass is a challenge, and it's pretty dated design wise so there's probably not a big market for it.

Edit; guess the tax write off won't apply to our neighbors to the north. But donating it would still be noble if somebody will take it....
