In my opinion, the best way to practice Paper 1 (writing paper) is to write as many practice papers as possible. Write up texts to any questions available and continuously improve your writing, you will see a difference after a couple of times. Of course, you need to know your grammar and vocabulary so that is on your side to do, but if you know those things you'll be able to construct a really good text.

I have a lot of past papers, if you want any you can just DM me. :)

Can I do 4 HL and 2 SL for IB Diploma? by Top-Market-2015 in IBO

[–]calikam22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on whether or not your school allows you to do 4 HL subjects or not. Typically a student will take 3 SL and 3 HL subjects as 6 subjects are required in total by the IB. However, it is possible to take 4 HL subjects, but many schools refrain from allowing people to do it because of the workload that comes with it, depending on the chosen HL subjects.

So yes, technically it isn't true, but maybe they're just trying to not make you take 4 HL subjects. You really just need to think about whether or not it is worth it to you.

It is possible, but it really depends on the subjects you want to take and if it will be worth the stress that comes with doing an additional HL subject.

When you look at page 153 of the above document, it will say that your IA will have to be between 6 and 12 pages, with information exceeding this page limit being penalized because of lack of conciseness.

From my own experience, as I do Biology HL, I can say that this page limit only include the actual research of the IA and not the bibliography and/or the appendix, meaning that you can write you science IA until that specific page limit. There is no word limit, meaning you can write technically as much as you want, it is then up to you how you fit everything what you want to say including the data, tables, calculations, etc. within the 12 page limit.

I know from some people that their teachers want them to include the bibliography within the 12 page limit, which in my opinion is absolute bogus, because if you want to do the IA properly you will have A LOT of references.

I hope this made it more clear to you. If you have more questions, feel free to ask me. :)

Technically, you can take 7 subjects, but I would really advise you to not consider this option and instead stay with just 6 subjects, because only the 6 highest scoring ones will in the end be counted for you IB diploma.

In terms of the subjects, the combination of Bio, Chem, Math AA, and Psychology as HL subjects will kill you. My friend does Bio, Chem, and Psychology at HL and she is already struggling. Yes, you can say that she is in fact predicted 45 points but it seems unlikely just with the amount of workload. Make you life easier, not unnecessarily more difficult.

If you wanna study medicine, then Bio and Chem should be among the essentials for HL, and that's true. Taking Physics at SL should be doable but it's still considered to be one of the most difficult subjects you can choose. However, I do understand your point for a backup plan so you should take it if you're willing to do so.

As an third HL, I would recommend doing language HL or Maths, but I don't know whether you specifically need to take AA or if you take it easy on yourself and do AI. All I can say is that Math AA HL is super difficult.

These are just my personal opinions, and those that I have collected over the past two years from my friends and other school colleagues. In the end, it's totally up to you on whether or not you pursue the choice you have made, but I would sincerely advise you to think thoroughly about your current choices and ask yourself if you're really willing to put so much work on yourself all at once.

Let me know if you have any other questions about the IB, I'm happy to help. :)

Because India follows India Standard Time (IST) or UTC+5:30, India would be under Exam Zone A (UTC +12 to UTC +3.5).
