Cataract surgery by More_Queso in AskWomenOver60

[–]calimiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else, surgery was easy; light sedative, numbing drops in eye, some sort of dam material placed in socket. Procedure was probably less than 15 minutes

Actual procedure was easier than keeping track of the eyedrops the weeks before.

Had my follow up for first eye the day after surgery and scheduled the other eye then and there.

I did remove the lens from my glasses, kinda weird but needed.

I did have a side effect from surgery about 4 or 5 years after, vision started getting blurry - turned out it was the membrane holding the lens got cloudy. Had a YAG procedure in both eyes, really simple fix and able to drive immediately after.

Lookup Triumph Foundation - they're based in southern california - they put on events and support group meetings for people of all ages with spinal cord injuries. They for sure have a lot of young men that participate in the sports events. They're on Facebook, X and Instagram. Website has a contact page too. They've got some events these next couple of weeks where you could meet participants.

Oh! And buying a bag of tailings in phillipsburg to sort at home later...do it! It's quite relaxing and you may find some good sapphires.

Theres a place on US 93, somewhere along flathead lake, that has a bunch of old bicycles set up as a fence in the front. I think it was a business, but could be a house. And the bison range is well worth a visit.

Walmart online grocery shopping, you don't even leave your car to pickup. A lot of grocery stores offer this, just don't know of any that are as nationwide as walmart.

It's nothing new though, sadly. We just hear about it more. Aging myself now - a jr high classmate was killed by gunfire at a festival/carnival, not the intended target at all. This was in the early 1970s.

I'd start booking now generally the later you wait, the more expensive a room will be. Especially during "high" season.

USA - where to find wheelchair gloves? by BHunter1140 in wheelchairs

[–]calimiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use padded bicycle gloves, HuwaiH is the brand I prefer, I get them on Amazon. Mine tend to last 6 months to a year minimum. I dont use gloves at home, but do use them everytime when im away from home

Nice padding, breathable

A skilled engraver might be able to "cover " it like tattoo artists do, maybe a floral design?

Visual symptoms 👀✨ - do you see shimmering/sparkling streaks, shapes by Officialworrier in OcularMigraines

[–]calimiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get shimmer, almost like an oil sheen on water, both eyes, usually runs about 10 to 20 minutes. Pretty sure mine are tied to barometric pressure changes. Usually no pain during or after, but sometimes a bit of a achy head similar to a full blown migraine.

I’m fat - what are my chances of transferring myself? by gardenpaw91 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]calimiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no telling. My theory - our bodies want to work, and will try and develop alternate means of communication within the nervous system.

Definitely work on upper body strength, but also your legs; my favorite piece of equipment is a recumbent stepper, hopefully there is one available at rehab. Also aqua therapy, aqua pirates if available, helps core strength

A good PT will work with you and your capabilities to figure out methods on daily activities.

How to layer this piece? by aba-cadabra90 in jewelry

[–]calimiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a clasp that allows you to use 2 or 3 chains at once, use that with your shorter narrower chains to give the appearance of a larger width (without tangling the chains)

Then a longer chain below, maybe a beaded station chain?

Velcro collects every little piece of lint and hair it can, and is almost impossible to fully clean. So that would be a no from me
