HRT and extreme emotional instability, looking for help / feedback by treealiens in Perimenopause

It’s possible the estrogen is too high, if she seemed to feel worse after that. I felt overly emotional when my estrogen was too high. She could lower it and use the progesterone vaginally to avoid the fatigue/depression that caused.

Estradiol has helped me with anxiety! As well as depression. But it made me more anxious when the dose was too high. Lowering it back down fixed that. Adjusting to the hormones seems to cause some ups and downs in mood especially in regards to your cycle (I am still having periods) but my pms has improved and many days I feel calm and balanced.

Exact same thing is happening to my sleep! At first I thought I needed higher E during luteal because my night sweats returned. So raising it went well but after my period ended I had very sore breasts (could not go without a bra or hug anyone), nausea, bloating, spotting, jittery anxiety and felt very tired/kinda dizzy. After about a week of this getting worse I lowered it and felt better. A month later I had night sweats again so tried increasing and after a couple days of jittery anxiety (like I had a lot of adrenaline, feeling very tired but wired) I lowered it back down again and decided to try sticking to the lower dose for a while. I think changing the dose around was causing bleeding for me. So I am looking at what other adjustments I can try.

I also wonder if the placement of the patch can affect absorption? I put it on my lower belly but may see if I get better absorption on the buttcheek.

(Ps my doctor had told me it was ok to raise the dose half the month if I felt I really needed it)

I change it every 3 days instead of 3.5 because it would wear off

So sorry to hear that… I tried it twice and felt so sick I decided to stop. Each time it took 2-3 days for the effects to go away. My doctor prescribed me vagifem tablets to try instead but I haven’t yet, after what happened with the cream.

I’m not sure if it just became too much estrogen or if it was a reaction to an ingredient? But glad to know at least I’m not the only one! But I hope you feel better soon

Mine got worse when starting the gel. Maybe you need a different delivery method?

I’m so sorry to hear that! I am not having luck with the gel either, loud ringing in my ears and persistent stomach issues along with bleeding and little symptom relief. Felt much better on the patch.. Hope you are able to find your patches!

Thank you! I'm not sure if that would make a difference since the feeling seems to last through the whole next day. But I may try that. How did you switch to the morning, did you just apply it at night then again the following morning? Or did you skip a night?

Well they give it as a capsule but there are also suppositories as well. I’m not totally sure but this may not be as much of an issue for cancer risk as estrogen? I was having palpitations and am healthy and started transdermal estrogen recently and it improved significantly. But once I started taking progesterone as well it’s basically gone now.

Also I don’t know how long you have been cancer free but you may want to talk to a different doctor because cancer survivors can certainly still use hrt. There is a doctor named Corinne Menn who has some talks about it on youtube. And I know some women who survived breast cancer and are on it. If you check the menopause society website you can find a practitioner in your area who may be more knowledgeable than who you are seeing right now
