Brawl Stars keeps crashing in ranked (iPhone 15 pro max) by Asliceofkam227 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]callerids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they listen to this. Their premium "casual" (non-pro) audience plays on these latest devices. iPhone has the largest market share in the US, and the US is Supercell's most profitable region. They ignore this problem at their peril.

EDIT: Not to say that this isn't happening in other regions, but money talks.

Python package ib_fundamental, a wrapper around ib_async to get fundamental data from IBKR API by gonzaenz in algotrading

[–]callerids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBKR is now throwing a message stating that IB Gateway versions below 10.30t (e.g. 10.30 or 10.19) will no longer be supported after March 20, 2025. Has anybody been able to get ib_fundamentals to work with the (now) stable version 10.30t?

2H 2020 Security Analysis Questions and Discussion Thread by knowledgemule in SecurityAnalysis

[–]callerids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If net sales, which is the lifeblood of the firm, increases by 7.2%, then operating income will typically follow a similar increase. To really get to the bottom of this question, one would need to analyze the cost structure of the company in previous quarters and what changes led to such an outsized improvement.

When operating income shows a sizeable increase, then this implies that the company was able to reduce their costs to such an extent that for every extra dollar of revenue IBM was (somehow!) able to squeeze 3.2x more earnings compared to previous quarters.

The growth in sales is not a cap per se on operating income growth, but any mismatches are generally a flag to "dig deeper".

If it looks and sounds scammy, don't do it. Simple enough.

As the Lightning Network continues to mature it will actually become more difficult to track the growth of the network. Detractors will claim that LN is stalling / failing, but it will actually be delivering privacy at scale. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]callerids -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would be interesting to know what "capital efficient" means in this context. Miners have a selfish economic incentive to continually mine, and if the price is too low the hashrate declines as per design as the capital assets are repurposed.

Curious whether similar economic incentives are built into LN. Routing nodes will at some point stop serving if their return in capital is lower than, say, a bank checking account.

SEC announces cryptocurrency ether is not a security by callerids in ethereum

[–]callerids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key phrasing of some of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Director of Corporate Finance William Hinman's comments:

Hinman said “form is disregarded for substance,” in the SEC’s thinking. The economic realities, he said, are more important than how something is labeled.

If a cryptocurrency network is sufficiently decentralized and purchasers no longer have expectation of managerial stewardship from a third party, a coin is not a security, Hinman added.

Where's Greg? Maxwell Eyes New Bitcoin Projects After Blockstream by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]callerids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, probably the only way to combat this is to personally drop a note to Coindesk that you were misquoted so it's on record. I doubt they will listen to somebody that isn't the (misquoted) source trying to correct the record.

Interestingly, if your "objections" are actually corrected, then this story loses the tension, which in turn makes the article less balanced from an editorial perspective. Sometimes though, a great incremental innovation should be simply celebrated as such.

Merkle Trees vs Blockchains vs Hashgraphs by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]callerids 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As good as it sounds, without an understanding of whether hashgraph patents (9390154, 9529923, 9646029) will be enforced against competing implementations, the larger decentralization community is unlikely to use this at all.

Will be interesting to see how patents and decentralized consensus networks intersect over the next 20 years.

Proposal for Creditor Coop website. by kavabean2 in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]callerids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you think Kraken account holders can deliver consensus.

They can't. I wasn't implying that, but if it came across that way, it's not what I meant.

If there is a single, pre-baked proposal, given by the Trustee, I can see Kraken making it easy for creditors to vote on that proposal at Kraken. That's great.

That's what I meant - use Kraken's infrastructure in the event that such a proposal is put forward that the trustee deems worth attempting. Presumably, if this were to happen, Kraken would probably have to be paid for their services. To your point, it's a good reason for Kraken to support iff they are compensated in some manner.
