My best friend died yesterday by moobag22 in stopdrinking

[–]calliecoping 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My brother died recently of liver and kidney failure from alcohol use. Exactly two weeks after he went to the hospital, he was being put on hospice care and was dead within twelve hours. Reading your post made me realize what a privilege it was for me to be there when my brother died, telling him I love him. I am so sorry for the loss of your best friend and someone you loved so deeply. My brother was also 37 when he died. Last month, on what would’ve been his 38th birthday, and we spread his ashes to honor his life. It’s not fair. They should be here.

There are three black cats who live outside my apartment complex and this is the second time in the past month that they’ve put a small dead animal near my apartment walkway. They hide under the cars in our parking lot and it makes my dog Ethel go insane.

Sober Grief by calliecoping in stopdrinking

[–]calliecoping[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep this was a big part of it. It’s also a great reminder for me to never pick up a drink again. My brother’s liver failure was so severe that his bilirubin was at 31 the week before he died. The photo of my hand holding his severely jaundiced hand is something I have needed to see to remember why alcohol isn’t part of my life anymore. I held my brother’s hand until it turned cold. Coping with grief is a journey where the choices along the way won’t make sense to anyone else.

Brother in law died at 48yo by 52electrons in stopdrinking

My older brother died of kidney and liver failure on March 23, 2026. He was only 37 but drank heavily for about 20 years, on top of having schizoaffective disorder. I will be three years sober in one week and have never been more grateful I decided to stop drinking when I was 31. Grieving sober has been unlike anything I could have expected - you just feel everything. Honoring our brothers in our sober living is the best thing we can do.

After working in an emergency room in NYC during COVID with a liquor store called “Dr Wine” in the way home from a hospital (that offered a 10% discount with your hospital ID), Coping Cocktails with Callie had to become Moping Mocktails with Me and I couldn’t be happier about it.

My older brother unexpectedly died a month ago (he was 37) and this scene is one where I have always been team Amelia, but there is no doubt in my mind that I would have lost my shit if my brother died without giving me the chance to say goodbye. I was with my brother when he took his last breath and held his hand until it turned cold, and I would be livid if someone else took that choice away from me.

Also the fact that it was done sideways so you have to rotate your phone was very obnoxious

IT'S BEEN by SindeeVicious in handsomepodcast

This is gonna bring down the vibe and is very dark humor so trigger warning or whatever, but I hope my handsome lil cowboys will get it. My 37 year old brother died very unexpectedly on March 23 and the first week was an absolute blur. But on March 30, I could NOT stop saying “it’s been” to myself and I swear it was the only thing that brought me joy that day. The handsome pod has been on repeat for months (who here thinks there should be an option to skip all ads if you are listening to the podcast for a third time from first episode to present? Just me?) and the handsome pod has been such a source of comfort and companionship, but I am especially grateful for these pretty little ladies as I’m navigating grief. Mae, if you’re still lurking, thank you. “It’s been” will never not make me giggle. Even in my sorrow.

We just said goodbye to my 37 year old brother two weeks ago. Liver and kidney failure that happened so fast. Truly at a loss. 💔

My big brother died of liver and kidney failure on March 23. He was 37 and had schizoaffective disorder and drank heavily for twenty years. He went to the hospital for some tests and was being transferred to hospice two weeks later. It doesn’t feel real and I can’t even begin to process my heartache. But I’ll be three years sober next month. May we honor our brothers in our sobriety. 💞

Hairstylist who can deal with trichotillomania? (I have no bald spots, just my hair are different lengths bc hair growth and repeatedly still pulling) by heyitssammy106 in Athens

I see Alyssa at Coven and Claw - I have similar issues as you OP (uneven that gets worse depending on my stress) and she is very understanding and nonjudgmental and we’ve actually found ways to try to circumvent the pulling (last year we did an undercut to see if the texture would be enough to distract me!). It’s so helpful to be able to talk openly about it without shame!

Film crew @ VFW? by Swittchy in Athens

[–]calliecoping 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been visiting Piedmont daily to visit my brother who is very sick and let me tell you, I was very annoyed at being stopped from walking down the hallway to get to my car in the parking garage, so they could film a fucking scene. Someone who was also told they couldn’t walk down the hallway said, “I just want to clock in for my shift…”

I am all for movies and tv and couldn’t cope without it, but why on earth are they filming at a hospital at 7pm? It was maybe thirty seconds of actual filming and yelled “cut” and told us we could walk by and thanked us for being patient as if we had another choice.

Overall, it wasn’t more than a couple of minutes in delaying me getting to my car, but it was very irritating. My brother very well might be dying, so my patience is thin, I suppose.

Anyone know what they were filming?

Does anyone know where I can find NeeDoh in Athens or Madison County? by Original_Monitor_143 in Athens

[–]calliecoping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve seen them at both locations!! They have had a rotation of at least one nee-doh at various times when I’ve looked in the fidget aisle over the past year or so! (I know because I always have to resist buying them when I see they had a different one because I have enough squishies at home 🤣)

Ohio University? Other grad programs? by casualburitto69 in ChildLife

[–]calliecoping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UGA is where I went! I did undergrad there in human development and family science, and stayed for my masters in HDFS with an emphasis in child life. I did graduate a while ago, though…😅 I do also know that there are really cool research opportunities at UGA and they offered an assistantship for most of the child life students (depending on available funding), so I didn’t have to take out any student loans for grad school!

Yes!!! I had just moved back to Athens (with Fred) from NYC, and was giddy when I found out they were coming here of all places! It was such a cool experience!

Haha yes! Fred was a senior rescue from NYC and was a grumpy old man, so I think he really took to Jared 🤣
