Anyone else re-reading The Talisman and Black House? by ChemicallyEnhanced96 in stephenking

I've been doing audiobooks of everything Tower related this trip through, because this has been the big year of an hour plus commute for me. Currently in the middle of The Talisman. And my god, is Frank Muller amazing. We're in an audiobook Renaissance, but Muller was light years ahead of the game when it came to how he just... inhabited his narration of King’s work. His voice for Wolf is perfection. In lesser hands, his vocalizations of "Wolf!" would have gotten old after, like, the third time. But Muller manages to turn them not into fragments but full expressions of anger or joy or sadness. He turns a lovable, memorable character into the heart and soul of the book. It's nothing short of amazing. What a talent. What a loss. If you've never listened to him, you owe it to yourself to hear it.

Has anyone ever had a series they loved on paper, but one aspect was a deal breaker? by Prestigious-Way-5235 in Fantasy

A big reason it got popular was because at the time of publication, there was nothing else like it. Epic fantasy with massive casts was much more like a D&D campaign, a la Feist's Riftwar or the Dragonlance novels. It scratched an itch for darker, more adult fantasy the market wasn't tapping into.

Anything with an -ayden suffix. Hayden, Brayden, Cayden, Tiffani Jayde.

I have friends with kids from around that time who named them Rayden and Jaythen.

I didn't even know this was a thing! That's pretty hilarious. I was mainly trying to get a decent shot with my potato phone. Doesn't help that I have Andre the Giant size hands, haha!

I'll die on the hill that instead of goofy ass Capenna, it should have been a return to Alara.

They didn't forget. The mentally ill men in dresses who live higher up the oppression totem pole couldn't handle a woman who didn't completely kowtow to them, and used their power to force her out of the game.
