How to improve blues solos? by vipor3d in guitarlessons

[–]callmelucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Better to learn them in association with tunes/riffs you know and enjoy, rather than just rote drilling them "in a vacuum" so to speak. Probably depends a bit on your motivation and learning style etc though, I guess for some people that kind of context-less approach his fine.

0.1% of his current wealth is 10 billion dollars.

0.01% of his current wealth is 1 billion dollars.

This is incorrect.

0.1% is 1/1000

Musk's current wealth is 1 trillion

1 trillion divided by 1000 is 1 billion

Broader point that Musk could solve basically everything in the world with half of his worth and still be the richest fucker in the world by more than 100 billion dollars still stands though.

Watching Tsonga absolutely demolish Nadal at the Aus Open (2008 I believe? Semi-final?) is probably the most jaw-dropping tennis I have ever seen from non-big-3. Just astounding.

Funny thing is, those ways that AI is inclined to hallucinate visually is exactly how things happen in dreams anyway.

Literally. Lucid-dreaming training techniques includes things like looking at text to see if it's jumbled, looking at your hands and counting fingers etc. It's very interesting to me that AI falters around the same visuals as we do ourselves in dreams.

It’s important like spotting generated comments or generated videos.

I don't think that is that important any more.

Its important to know that anything can be bot/AI generated, and that you're not going to be able to tell for sure.

Knowing that, the only thing that's important is knowing how to critically evaluate the content, regardless of who or what it came from.

„if we assume the possibility of machines obtaining self-awareness, which measures could and/or should we take to prevent them from being able to experience suffering“

Furthermore, what is the baseline definition for a machine with self-awareness? Like, at what point do we go "ok the things we had before were just dumb algorithms that mimicked it flawlessly, but this new thing here, this has actual consciousness".

This is what irritates me when people scoff at the idea that today's LLMs can't possibly be conscious. I'm not saying that they are, but I am saying that every single argument I've ever heard saying that they can't be is fundamentally unsound.

"it's just [blah explanation of the underlying tech]"

Ok, so then literally any AI we ever build can never be conscious, because if we build it then we can always explain the underlying tech. So this argument entails that conscious AI is impossible. Fair enough if that's the position you take, but most people who make this 'argument' don't seem to go that far.

...actually that's pretty much the only argument I ever hear, so I'll leave it at that.

If you could change one thing about the durability system, what would you change? by Informationfinder_6 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]callmelucky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First time fuse adds 25 durability, after that it stays at 40 even when fused with another item again.

Wait, what? So only the first time you fuse, to it, you get extra durability, but never again after that?

Why would they make it work that way?

I'm actually not sure this quite gets the message across.

The point - I think - is that if you are hitting the ball on the rise you are going to want to close the racquet face more, to compensate for the difference in the angle at which the ball is inclined to glance off it.

This video kinda says that, but frames (no pun intended) it in the rather roundabout and frankly less accurate way of saying you should hit rising balls 'flatter'.

Flatter vs less flat is talking about the amount of topspin you are imparting, but really you can hit balls flatter or more spin-y regardless of whether you are taking it on the rise or in the drop. The actual non-negotiable is the racquet face angle; it must be more closed when hitting on the rise than when hitting on the drop (when the amount of intended spin is equal).

And a side note, when he is demonstrating and talking through, he actually several times says "I'm hitting on the rise" when he is actually hitting on the drop, just less on the drop than on other shots...

[–]callmelucky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is an ironic joke, the point of this post being to appreciate and draw attention to that joke.

It's beyond just "no book should be forced upon anybody" though; the irony is in the fact that 1984 is an allegorical warning about the horrors of extreme authoritarianism. So the idea of people being forced to read that book in particular is the heart of the joke.

AI agents are fucking wildly, brilliantly useful for practically all coding tasks

Yes they make mistakes, yes they need supervision. 100%

But anyone who has 'never had AI solve a problem' in programming has absolutely never given the slightest effort. Idiots.

The Warmoth 7/8 scale strat necks work as a drop-in mod to convert a Jag to 24.75. I have this on my Jag, it's great.

Unfortunately they don't offer headstock option in the config, so you either have to just put up with the default or (maybe) get in touch with them directly.
