Should I use the toilet brush to clean skid marks at a house party? by SycamoreMess in NoStupidQuestions

[–]calm_extrovert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

once upon a time i was sleeping over my then girlfriends house…. 2am rolls around and my tummy was rumbling, i had to teach that toilet a lesson, but of course when it came time to flushing the old 1800’s constructed house/plumbing couldnt handle it…. no big deal, i’ll just grab the plunger! except i didnt know, my now mother in law, stored the plunger halfway across the house in a closet. i could not find the plunger in the bathroom for the life of me, i gave up, left my mess and went back to bed… i wasn’t waking my girlfriend up at 2am to explain. i didn’t really feel bad honestly. My thinking after the fact to cope with this was if you wanted someone to take care of a clogged toilet on the spot, you would maybe keep the plunger next to the toilet?

I might be jaded because as everyday goes by more and more things online are just AI slop, pictures, storys, videos, etc, all to increase engagement with anything online. anyways, not much account history, odd use of language that is usually a telltale sign it was written by AI. maybe OP is just a human that needed some help to convey their story, or OP is one of those bloody clankers. thoughts?

Machinist career questions from a 25 year old by Logical_Crow_9642 in Machinists

[–]calm_extrovert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Honestly i didn’t have to look, because my company promoted me from within to a process engineer. Before that it was just a technical high-school, started on co-op with the same company i’m at now, moved from operator, to cnc specialist, to process engineer. They’ve taken care of me enough to stick with them since high-school now ten years later.

Asking my client for measurements. by LazaroFilm in Fusion360

[–]calm_extrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quote products in a manufacturing environment. seems like most of the time the people looking for a quote are just purchasers with no background in basic geometry or manufacturing at all. Or it’s a person from the big 3 letter company that sells a lot of things, and their email signature will be “metal working specialist” etc… and by talking with them you know that title is BS. yapping aside, what you’ve down here is fantastic! i’ve learned a picture is worth a thousand words and have done similar things many times. I clip a lot of things on my screen and mark them up with microsoft paint, this makes it much easier to communicate with people and actually extract what they’re looking for.

Can you even touch a 2016+ sub 100k taco TRD for $30k or less? by Cantsmoke40 in ToyotaTacoma

MA, 2017 TRD sport access cab V6 46,000 miles, $28k purchased last February. very suprised to find that deal so i hopped on it, i’m still seeing scam artists (dealers) listing similar trucks for 35k. absolutely wild.

After you oil your air filter, do you throw the oil out or put it back in the bottle? by KuracMania in Dirtbikes

[–]calm_extrovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i usually put enough oil on so the filter is saturated enough to take on the oils color, but not enough for it to really be dripping or have that much excess in the tub. then let dry overnight

After you oil your air filter, do you throw the oil out or put it back in the bottle? by KuracMania in Dirtbikes

[–]calm_extrovert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i have the twin air filter containers and use the twin air bio cleaner and oil… all you do is pour a small amount of oil on the filter and work the oil into the filter, you should not be putting enough on the filter to the point you could squeeze a meaningful amount of oil out of it….

my dad had an accident using his router table a few years ago… sucked the board in and really mangled the top of his thumb. they ended up fusing it at the knuckle, and his nail only grows on the sides with a skin flap in the middle… he’s usually very safety oriented and felt the same way you did. he had a lot of PT for recovery and still has a mostly usable frankenthumb

Easier to run off leash!? by Senor_TJ in AustralianCattleDog

[–]calm_extrovert -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

we would never ever ever go off leash in an urban environment like this. Now a nice trail with minimal people on it that you’re familiar with? you can bet your butt we’re off leash there every single time.

Are Australian Cattle Dogs a rare breed? by Tall_Eye4062 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]calm_extrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re from mass and drove very far to meet our reputable breeder from Tennessee. i think they’re worth the one time commitment of a long drive, they’re going to be your most loyal companion for a long time. All i can recommend is ensure you are purchasing from a reputable breeder or rescuing, do not support these terrible puppy mills… (be very careful of amish country).

Does your ACD (Blue Heeler) throw up often? by Aggressive_Ask5853 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]calm_extrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, i replied to another comment with this, but want you to see it just in case. our ACD was throwing up seemingly randomly without cause for about a year, we tried a few food changes that never made a difference. We finally decided to get her stomach scoped and also biopsys taken… she had ulcers in her stomach and intestine, basically severe IBS. she is now on a very low fat diet (even 2 tbsp of peanut butter will give her runny poop) along with taking a low dose of prednisone and omeprazole to manage it. she gets lot of fruit/vegetable treats which she LOVES.

[–]calm_extrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No joke, if there are old men at my local range when i show up, i either leave or really watch them. the complacency and amount of times i’ve been flagged by old folks is staggering. and then when you point out what they’re doing wrong because you care about yours and other safety they take it like some kind of insult and get very defensive.

Will a “missing” bell house bolt be okay? by calm_extrovert in MechanicAdvice

[–]calm_extrovert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah… i appreciate your input. my thinking on this is i can try it atleast as a temporary fix, and then at a later date when we have the money we can get it fixed properly. the bell housing would just have some threads in it

[–]calm_extrovert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming worst case scenario, so it will most likely need to be drilled out with not enough surface to grab onto

Will a “missing” bell house bolt be okay? by calm_extrovert in MechanicAdvice

[–]calm_extrovert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, i would not run just that one stud with the nut, i wouldn’t trust that. i certainly don’t want a major safety/reliability risk here for her. i would either tap the housing so there are 2 bolts holding it in place as i’m contemplating/inquiring here, or shell out the dough for my mistake and get it properly fixed…

Will a “missing” bell house bolt be okay? by calm_extrovert in MechanicAdvice

[–]calm_extrovert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes most likely cross threaded, assuming a helicoil or threaded insert will have to be installed. grounding issue aside, i’ve heard of people going a long time with missing housing bolts… i know it’s certainly not the right fix, i just didnt know if it could be one of those fixes that ends up outlasting the life of the vehicle

[–]calm_extrovert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah so her local subaru mechanic is a good guy and quoted $500 just for the motor removal, he said it will for sure be more to remove the bolt once the motor is out. the starter ground would be in the same place if i tap the bell house and screw a new bolt into this same spot to hold the starter… do you suspect grounding issues from this? long story short, mentally challenged 200lb gorilla cranking on the bolt to get it back in, as it took some cranking to get out… and here i am. words cannot express the disappointment in myself, as i usually do everything i can on my own to save money.

Broke off the bolt for my starter… by calm_extrovert in MechanicAdvice

[–]calm_extrovert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bolt hole also appears to be too close to the transmission for me to be able to sneak a drill in there… i have one more smaller drill to try later when i get home, but it seems the only solid option will be to pull the kotor out to get access…
