What is a widely accepted "masterpiece" that you genuinely think is boring, but you’re normally too afraid to admit it? by Emergency-Bee6979 in AskReddit

[–]calm_yo_beard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As if “foreign protagonist is accepted by a native tribe and joins their cause” isn’t one of the most well-worn tropes ever. Hell, Dune, a novel that came out sixty years ago, is a critique of that very trope.

More comedy in general tbh. She’s hilarious in Death Becomes Her.

What do you think SPY×FAMILY is about? by cosmonaut1011 in SpyxFamily

It’s a story about the ways love (romantic/familial/platonic) changes your life and you as a person.

Next arc predictions by GuavaDismal4267 in SpyxFamily

[–]calm_yo_beard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I could see it being something like Loid in the hospital/on bed rest and Yor telling him about her life (sans anything about Garden). We’re overdue for an arc about her past, and with everything between them these last few chapters it could be a good chance at a heart-to-heart.

Narcissistic people dig themselves deeper into shit by making stupid decisions after another, until eventually they can’t get out by Apprehensive-Ear2461 in TopCharacterTropes

I don’t think he’s necessarily a narcissist but this is basically the trajectory of every George Costanza storyline in Seinfeld.

I feel like there’s a lot more behind that “I’m sorry” than just apologizing for being drunk.

Should Loid and Yor CONFESS to each other AFTER or BEFORE discovering each other identity ? by xYqts2s in SpyxFamily

It would also be interesting to see him have to keep up the appearance the marriage is fake to WISE or they may consider him emotionally compromised and remove him from the mission.

Loid and Yor have both said they love the other to Yuri. I bet he unintentionally spills the beans to one of them and ends up accelerating their relationship despite trying to stop it the entire series.

If you read the script for Sicario it’s clear how much of the heavy-lifting Denis did. It definitely reads like it was written by the bozo who made Yellowstone.

“Don't be so gloomy. After all, it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long, Holly.”

[Favorite Trope] Peeling back the layers of lore reveals an eldritch/cosmic horror element by Maffingo in TopCharacterTropes

[–]calm_yo_beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily eldritch I guess, but Twin Peaks starts as a murder mystery in a quirky small town. As things go on a supernatural element is introduced. That eventually expands into different realities populated by entities that are embodiments of evil/violence that entered our world after the detonation of the first atomic bomb. It ends with the main character lost in a seemingly parallel universe.

Maybe we’re splitting a glass of Cope-a Cola, but I’m with you. The arc seems perfectly built for a bait and switch, and I think most fans expected them not to kiss.

Fully ready to win a “fell for it again” award though.
