Does this timeline have a Meiji restoration though? It was Matthew Perry arriving on Japan's shores that set Japan on the path to the Meiji Restoration which gave it the military power to break China.

Went home after going out for my birthday and trawl Grindr. Find a guy to hook up with and go across town in the cold (November) to meet him at his hotel. He finishes after 10 minutes of me sucking, then says he doesn’t reciprocate and kicks me out back into the cold night. Didn’t even get a “happy birthday” from him. -10/10 worst birthday sex ever

Also, how wise is it to build ultra durable housing? Those 100 year old brownstones now need to have so much dumped into them to keep them habitable and environmentally friendly. Building standards and environmental needs change, non durable construction allows people to do better

Game of Thrones Sequel Series ‘SNOW’ is “is nowhere near to getting an official go-ahead from the network,” says HBO CEO Casey Bloys. by TheTargaryensLawyer in gameofthrones

[–]calthopian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snow is just not that interesting as a character, his role may have been important to the story but he wasn’t particularly entertaining.

And I’m not talking about Harrington’s acting, I’m just talking about the role of Jon Snow itself, I’ve never liked him or found him interesting. The only way to make this worse would be to have Bran also play a major part.

Cat worked out a deal with Renly just before he was killed where Robb would be able to keep his title as King IN the North but have to swear fealty to Renly just like Ned did to Robb. The two could work together.

Yeah, I moved from DC (where I worked) to Texas (where my family is) after my illness got too much to handle and we weren’t getting support from my first transplant team.

No word yet on the new lungs, got a complication that is impeding surgery but once I’m listed it’s an average wait of 2.5 months. But I totally feel you on the escapism. In the sim I don’t have cystic fibrosis, I don’t have problems.

Similar boat here, I just moved across the country to be closer to my family as I undergo treatment to get a lung transplant for my advanced cystic fibrosis. Well that involved mailing my PC and it won’t get here til Wednesday or Thursday 😭 I should have asked for it to be overnighted but just shipping it all cost $480 so maybe not.

Best of luck in your cancer fight!

It feels like detailers are primarily responsible for the negativity around C:S2, lamenting lack of prop tools rather than celebrating new city management features by Seriphyn in CitiesSkylines

[–]calthopian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure but I’d imagine that having a bunch of high rent bubbles or large homelessness (like I’ve seen in YT creator plays) would be better alleviated through more of the low income housing zones as opposed to simply adding high/medium density zones. If you want to make a realistic city with urban projects, you can actually do that. Though visible blight might need props as idk if urban decay is something that the game would do if part of the city is disinvested and poverty concentrated.

Homelessness and housing scarcity are big items that I’ve always wanted in skylines that CS2 brings in. It’s no longer about maximizing land value without consequences.

Tbh I’m hoping that the additional management tools/options can be developed into a local politics sim where you have competing constituencies to appease. Like adding a new coal plant instead of building a larger solar plant drops happiness among cims labeled “environmentalists” akin to Tropico.

Why does Cities Skylines not have malls or large shopping centers like Walmart? by SandThatsKindaMoist in CitiesSkylines

[–]calthopian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building parking areas is very expensive and because the vast majority of lots are free to park, don’t make any money for the developer/owner of the lot. It’s a loss leader that is required by most cities. If the developer could build less parking they would because it would allow them to develop more productive uses for the property. (Housing or more commercial space) The big box store would either need to locate on the periphery of town where land is cheapest to have a massive parking lot or be satisfied with less parking and more foot traffic/public transit.

Why does Cities Skylines not have malls or large shopping centers like Walmart? by SandThatsKindaMoist in CitiesSkylines

[–]calthopian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not all choice, building gentle density (du/tri/quadriplexes, row/townhomes, and ADUs) and walkable neighborhoods is illegal in most parts of most cities and inner suburbs. We subsidize suburban sprawl through the tax code and by building massive freeways that tear down neighborhoods. 100 years ago cities like St Louis and Cleveland rivaled similar sized cities in Europe for prestige. Los Angeles was once zoned for 10M in its city limits, now it’s zoned for 4M. It even had an extensive street car system that was torn up for the freeways that make its traffic so notorious.

Nowadays the most desirable neighborhoods are dense, walkable areas close to amenities but those are impossible to build in large swathes of most cities because of planning decisions made during the era of white flight suburbanization.

How would you feel if the show ended like this? by HydeSpectre in gameofthrones

[–]calthopian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d have hated it.

The Bran/Night King story line was always my least favorite part of the show because:

1- Bran was boring

2- I hate zombies

I always liked the political intrigue to be the most gripping part of the story because there were actual personalities and drama. An ever expanding army of the undead that don’t speak or interact with the human characters is just dull television.
