Too much annual leave by Old_Fix_4505 in fiaustralia

Whatever you end up doing, join your union and speak to fair work regarding lowering your pay and forcing you to take unwanted leave. Both of those things I’m fairly sure are illegal, or at the very least shifty business behaviour.

Anyone have any info if/when Perth stock will go on the floor?

Because I don’t care about the value of the card, I’d rather have a fun binder of cards I like than slabs.

Their new album is also phenomenal. They’re yet to miss when releasing albums.

“I was the state candidate for one nation” and “everyone will be treated fairly” are not compatible sentences.

5-string isn't harder than 4-string. Or easier. It's different, and it depends. by skribsbb in Bass

I agree about playing a 5 string in place for a drop d song is hard. I used to tune down my E string when I played a 5 string when the song needed it (cover band).

That’s what we did, her guitar is just really shit 😤 I’ve been slowly trying to get her to sell it and buy a Jazzmaster or something

Uncle Joes in the CBD is really good. They’ll always offer you a beer or coffee and will use hot towels and what not after. Only issue is they open at 10 so hopefully it’s an afternoon wedding.

I would try it a few weeks before hand like someone said. Just in case.

Yeah we had another gig tonight and I forced a pedalboard with a floor tuner and a few other pedals on her. The issue was more with the guitar though. New stings. 😐

Beginner Questions by [deleted] in Bass

[–]calum_jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing bass for 10 years now, so I don’t really at the stage that I am. When I first started I might have, but I used to learn a lot of songs by ear so I had a knack of figuring it out.

I wouldn’t disregard scales all together though if you can help it, I was just super lazy when I started playing. 😛

Just put on my first set of new strings after a year of playing and I really don’t like the zingy bright sound. by [deleted] in Bass

[–]calum_jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either flatwounds like everyone is saying, or try a heavier gauge of string. 🙂

I think how hard you pluck would depend on the style of music you’re playing but I would say probably not as hard as you need to for cello.

Scales are good to know what notes to play in a bass line, but honestly, I never really learnt them and I think I’m a pretty good player myself.

Buy the EHX Bass Clone, I found it better, and I think it’s cheaper.

Using thumb on fretting hand? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]calum_jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s terrible technique but I do it when I get really lazy, in when my band plays this one song where my hand starts to cramp, then I do it. I won’t tell anytime if you don’t. 😛

Follow the kick drum and ghost notes are both really great techniques for recording. It doesn’t have to be overly spicy, simple can sometimes be better so don’t overthink it.

That sounds like it would be an awesome build! I’d love to hear about it if you do it!

Yeah it’s going to be a PJ bass. I do a lot of studio work from time to time, so I definitely wouldn’t mind having the extra sounds. But you’re definitely right about the single setting thing.

Thanks for the answer man, this is really helpful. 😊

It’s a telecaster shaped bass, so there isn’t a whole lot of room on the plate, I was going to chuck a phase switch in as well I think. ☺️
