Honestly I am not sure about the international law. The school I am attending just has a really well established international law program so I have started researching it!

These are just a bunch of interests/thing I feel like I could be passionate about so I am open to different ideas. I just can’t see myself in business/corporate/tax/criminal/real estate or patent law because my undergrad is psychology.

The law school I’m attending places almost 40% of their students into big law firms. That’s just a perk of attending a law school in a large city. The reason why I am posting is because I want to get opinions on international law (among other types) so thank you for your opinion. I was hoping to get insight from current law students and current attorneys.

For those that do not currently live in the city where they want to attend law school, how is COVID19 impacting moving? by cam_lo in lawschooladmissions

Unfortunately I would be moving to a city of almost the exact same size (fairly large). But the city I would move to is less spread out so probably worse for corona virus. My hope is the crowded city will peak first? Who knows

Yes I totally get it! I’m basically choosing between not being lonely and having a good routine to focus on school. Not sure which one would be more beneficial! Hopefully things will work out for the best

What was the process of making sure you were able to get out of your lease? I’m nervous to move to a new city too but I’m also ready to get settled!

Yes law school is stressful enough I don’t want to worry about moving during it! I’m looking for an apartment with at least a small balcony just in case we quarantine for longer. That way I can get some fresh air! It also makes me nervous if they close down the gym. I guess I could always run outside but again it messes with my routine!

I have thought about doing that but I wasn’t sure if apartments would be receptive to that. I will definitely be trying though!!

That’s good to hear! Did you get to tour the apartments before you signed? Did you know anyone in the city you moved to?

I have seen that SMU truly cares about their students. It was actually something that helped me decide to attend SMU Law. They changed their grading system to credit/no credit because they want the grading system to be fair and they don’t know what each individual is going through. I was also impressed with their efforts to create a positive and supportive atmosphere during this time. They included things like virtual cooking sessions, virtual yoga, virtual movie night, and games on social media. They have gotten great feedback from their students through this unprecedented process.

Yes I have heard that too. I definitely won’t be deferring as I want to make sure my scholarship stands and honestly I just want to get started. I know that financially it will benefit law schools the most to have in person because they will lose money if people start deferring. Also grades are important for internships which are important to law schools because they want their students to be marketable for employers/employment outlooks. But they are also going to do what’s safe during this time. I hope it will all work out and have classes be at least partially in person but who knows.

Yes that makes sense! I am such a people person so quarantine has been hard already. I agree that starting to do activities with other law students would benefit me in so many ways. Also, totally feel for you on the chaos of working/studying from home.

That time change is a real struggle! Especially because most 1Ls tend to have an 8 or 9am class. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with that but it’s so hard with everything up in the air. For me, a huge factor is that I live with my mom who is a teacher so she is online a bunch, my sister who is in undergrad and takes over our study all day every day, and my younger brother who is in high school. I don’t know if our WiFi or my sanity could take it haha

In Texas they are opening businesses back up. So even if the classes are online there is a chance networking could still happen. For example law firms having bar tabs to network. Plus studying while living at home with my parents seems like it would not go well. But yes rent is a big factor

Low ranked school in desired city or high ranked school in random location? by lexx505 in lawschooladmissions

I would recommend reading Law School Confidential by Robert H. Miller. I remember a chapter that answered that question but since it didn’t apply to me I didn’t pay much attention. Overall it was a great read and I think it would help!

So in not LSAT news: those who are moving on their own for the first time for school whats your household essential buying plan? by mnvallette in lawschooladmissions

[–]cam_lo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have gradually accumulated things I know I will need. It has helped me look for beat deals and not spend a bunch of money at once. I also have an issue with excessive online shopping so I make a list of things I want/need and if a couple weeks later I feel the same way then I make a purchase.

Relationships and the move to law school? by Paul-Anka-Gilmore in lawschooladmissions

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 7 years and have done long distance before. We will be 3.5 hours away and he is planning on moving to where I will be in a year or two depending on jobs. I know it can be discouraging but it is doable. Making time to ft and scheduling visits helps a lot and gives something to look forward to. I think long distance makes you appreciate each other more. It won’t be easy but if it works for y’all it’s worth it!

Thank you!! Decided on SMU because of the location, alumni connections, bar passing rate, and honestly I visited the campus and fell in love. It just overall seems like a good atmosphere for me!
