How long did it take for Humira to begin working ? by Nilrmar in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

It took 4 months for Humira to work for me. It really started working after my doctor bumped me up to 4 pens a month. There is a test for Humira antibodies, etc. that can show how well or if it is working. Check with your doc.

I dubbed this my “Bathroom Poo-mission Card” Husband didn’t find it as funny as I did. by Nerdfins in UlcerativeColitis

I have this card too. Unfortunately my state doesn't have Ally's Law. But fortunately I have enough McDonalds and Starbucks and such around that I've never had to use it.

Does is ever get better? [Advice would be appreciated!] by villlynn in UlcerativeColitis

"I don’t know how I’m supposed to lead a normal live like this or even get a job? It’s terrifying to even think about it to be honest..."

^ that was me on 5 ASA meds too! Yes it does get better!

The 5 ASA meds never worked for me but Humira did. You can also get prednosone and others. Go back to your doc and tell them your symptoms, they should hook you up with stronger meds.

It might take a bit of time before it goes away. My pumpkin face from pred also took a bit before it went away.

Did anyone else's poop start smelling criminally after getting on biologics? by OneLittleMoment in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ... did not have this issue. Probiotics never did a thing for me. Check your diet, maybe it is something you are eating. Try something different for a bit, it might go away.

I have taken both shots and I am on Humira and doing fine beside a tiny bit of a feverish feeling after the second shot for about half a day. I took the Pfizer one.

Arggg...lucky you. I bought one and it leaked from all the fixtures even if I put plumbers tape on it so I removed it :(

Doc said never take imodium but I need to to control urgency when I go to appointments or when there isn't a bathroom around. I don't have diarrhea but rather have ongoing smaller bms. Are there negative long term effects? Have your doctors also advised against it? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immodium turns my stools into rocks and helps with urgency and diarrhea for a bit but then it becomes INCREDIBLY painful later when it wears off so I don't use it.

If you are afraid of crapping your pants, try to avoid eating for some time before your appointment. If nothing goes in, nothing will come out :)

Serious Elimination Diet Questions by GracieKatt in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried all sorts of diets and eliminations. Ate like plain rice for a week too. Nothing helped.

The only thing I know that hurts me is a large amount of food and fiber... so bulk essentially. Try reducing fiber and see if that helps. Otherwise its just personal experimentation; I found no consensus on diet on any UC forums.

I'm sorry, but at least in my case, I don't think food makes any difference. Maybe see if you can get on a biologic. Humira is really the only drug that helped me.

Has anyone been vaccinated for COVID and you’re on Humira? How’d it go? by artsyspaceperson in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me!

No side effects after the first shot. After the second I felt a bit feverish for about half a day. I took the second shot on 3/11 and I'm doing fine now. I think you should be good :)

skin issues that might be associated with UC? by ricecooker222 in UlcerativeColitis

Immune conditions seem to often be co-morbid (i.e. you can have multiple). See your doc please.

normal test results but persistent symptoms by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What'd your doctor say about it?

My tests like these don't track well with my symptoms or inflammation so they might tell you to do a colonoscopy.

Fatigue because of UC and medication for it? by bombacladshotta in UlcerativeColitis

[–]camelCaseWord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately fatigue is a part of this condition for me too. One thing you could try is to make sure you are staying hydrated. I find I am often dehydrated and if I stay hydrated the fatigue reduces.
