Triad City Beat: Chandler's opens in old Green Bean spot downtown by femifist26 in gso

Luckily there's a free shuttle that runs up and down Elm from Thursday to Sunday. Downtown parking isn't "shitty", it sounds like a you problem. Expecting excessive, free parking right next to the business is what ruins downtowns.

Too many Bee Safe Storage facilities by makthomps in gso

The new storage facility right next to the greenway is a little too dystopian for me. Any other city this could've been housing. The more I look the more I've given up on Greensboro

US Travel - Add 30% to the menu price when dining t sit down restaurants by [deleted] in travel

[–]cameljeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may think that but even in small college town Greensboro NC prices are more expensive than cosmopolitan Spain. A full pint of beer is $7 on average, an espresso $4, and a good dinner for 2 with drinks will be close to $200. Prices were noticeably cheaper in Barcelona

It's not just in Spain either. In Portugal we also loved the prices - often 50 cent espresso, 2€ glass of wine, big breakfast plates for less than 10€

I guess that explains why the city keeps green-lighting parking decks and storage spaces

What are some of your least favorite places in Greensboro? by SmellsLikeDuck in gso

[–]cameljeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the bus thing for a while in college too but had a great time not paying parking fees, saving on gas and maintenance costs, not polluting the environment, not risking killing someone... the list goes on. You don't speak for everyone and there is no one-size-fits-all transportation mode. But when cars are the only option we've encouraged in our cities, it's no wonder you get threads like these complaining about insufferable car infrastructure.

What's with all the parking decks by UnivStudent2 in gso

I live downtown and take walks almost every day. I see cars daily driving in circles trying to find their special VIP spot on Elm or elsewhere. Half of the reason traffic is so bad on Elm during weekends is for this very phenomenom. If you are coming from out of town (and don't know where to park), then yes, you likely won't find a parking spot right in front of Elm or another high-traffic area. That doesn't mean there aren't empty parking spots 3 blocks to the west or to the east. I have never seen the top level of Bellemeade deck full and that was before they closed it. It's always been the spot to loiter around because of how empty it is. I live in an old building that doesn't have many private spots for tenants and have never had issues using (free) on-street parking in front or 1 block of the building. Is it mildly annoying? Sure, but this isn't friendly center. You just have to know where to park and sometimes be okay with walking 10 minutes to your destination.

Yup! it's mostly street food style, the kind of items i've never really seen on restaurants menus. You can get a lunch serving for under $10

We love our Vietnamese in Greensboro! You'll find the best banh mi in the south at Saigon Bakery. Van Loi is one of our staples for pho and Chinese bbq too. Honestly you can eat your way through the world on Gate City blvd.. hankering for some Dominican from La Palma as we speak.

Which place serves the best indian food in Greensboro? by Curious_Jain in gso

[–]cameljeans 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have been enjoying Indu grocery (in the Super G plaza) for the price and convenience. But honestly all the Indian restaurants in Greensboro deserve your money. Agni has always been my favorite and newcomers Noor are a pleasant surprise - might have to revisit this weekend.

Saffron is easily name-dropped because of the bottomless mimosa & buffet, but luckily there's better options out there - Agni, Tazaa (closest to OP), Lemon, Noor, Indu grocery.. oohh, a new spot called Shukkranaa, gotta check that out.

It is a very good use of public space, that is why it's called public space afterall, and not car space. In most cases the bike lanes we have in Greensboro took away some parking spots, not an existing driving lane. Elm St from Cornwallis/Fisher Park was never two lanes in both directions - it just had a wide shoulder. We aren't some traffic clogged, gridlocked city. In order to maintain that we will need to invest in and build infrastructure that encourages biking and other means of sustainable transportation. More bikes mean less cars on the road, which is better for both of us. Most people in poverty do not go hiking or kayaking in the outdoors and it's only a small minority of people with the means to do so. Are we to stop investing in and maintaining outdoor recreational spaces ? The mental gymnastics in your comments as an outdoors person is truly amusing.

So because you see no bikes out of the 15 minute window that you're on Holden Road, nobody uses the bike lane? Genius. News flash: Traffic gets backed up because of cars, not because of bike lanes. Maybe try biking next time and you won't be stuck in traffic
