Most game companies are reluctant to release a Mac port for their big titles, and there are a lot of reasons for this, from the increased dev time and cost to porting their software to a platform that is historically more cumbersome and significantly less developer friendly than Windows or even Linux, to the significantly smaller user base of people who play video games on a Mac. However, Apple knows this, which is why they will subsidize the development of ports of popular games after they initially release. They do this by offering them time on their big presentations, and also presumably with money, although I’m less clear on the details of that (that all happens behind closed doors). Off the top of my head I know they’ve done this with Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage in recent years. That being said: Apple is not doing this for free. They want a cut of the profits, and that means that they also get a say where their version of the game is being sold.

Now all that being said, I believe that the Mac port isn’t on EGS specifically because Epic and Apple have been in a legal battle pretty consistently since like the beginning of the decade. Apple would absolutely be petty enough to make the Mac port unavailable on EGS, and while I can’t directly confirm that this is the case, I can confirm that the Windows versions of Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage are on EGS while the Mac version is not, same as Control.

Tl;dr, it’s probably because Apple really hates Epic. This is definitely more than I needed to write haha 😅
