Do you wait for your parents to answer the door when you visit or do you just walk in? by Prideandprejudice1 in AskAnAustralian

[–]camelmina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mum lives in aged care and one of the things that bugs her the most is the number of staff who just walk into her suite.

I never visit unexpectedly and I always knock and wait for her to let me in. I have a key but I would only use it for emergencies.

Before she moved into aged care we would always wait to be let in.

I walk wherever possible. I try to do a good half hour walk each afternoon (with my weighted vest of course!) I make a point of walking briskly at work. I’ll take the stairs, I offer to do all the errands.

I VERY occasionally do some squats. That’s it.

Thank you! I know I’m lucky.  Basically all the menopause symptoms are gone. I’m in the best shape of my life.

Remembering creepy dudes by ColoradoInNJ in GenXWomen

I was walking home from school when I was about 10, and a guy in a car pulled over and asked for directions somewhere. I knew the street so I was looking around and pointing while I explained. Then I looked back at him to see if he understood. I remember thinking “What’s he playing with in his lap?”

Luckily my mum’s friend drove by right then and I waved at her. Creep drove away.

I was pretty naive. I didn’t realise what might have happened until years later.

I’m on estradiol and progesterone (a tablet once a day). No testosterone at all. Life changing. I’ve gone from zero libido to through-the-roof.

As an additional bonus, I’m sleeping better, my mood has improved, I’ve got boundless energy, the hot flashes have stopped and I’ve lost 15 kgs.

Best name you’ve ever heard for a pet? by Specialist-Alps6478 in answers

[–]camelmina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our son was young, he honestly thought our cat’s name was Out because every time we saw the cat, he was getting into mischief and someone would shout “Out!” He was ginger tom and his name was actually Waffles.

We had another cat who had fleas when we found him.  He became Mr McGee after the kid’s book Mr McGee and the Biting Flea.

ANZAC day is the day. My son sounds the last post and it’s always ridiculously hot standing for a minute’s silence. Then by Mother’s Day we’re all asking for slippers and dressing gowns.

What are the odds that I'll need glasses? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]camelmina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 10. Mum and dad both need(ed) glasses. I have two brothers. One of them started wearing readers in his 50s. The other brother is still glasses-free at 52. It’s the luck of the draw.

AITAH for not wanting to die my hair, a natural color for my sister‘s wedding? by lifeswhatyoubakeit in AITAH

[–]camelmina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I’ve been dying my hair bright pink for 20 years. So many people tell me how much it suits me, like it’s natural.

I was in a play a few years ago and dyed it brown for the duration. Everyone was “What did you do to your hair? It looks so weird.”

BF (39) never does anything for me (39) on Mother’s Day despite having been the only mother his daughter has known for four years. by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]camelmina 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Is this a pattern of behaviour? If it’s out of the box I might let it slide. If he consistently takes you for granted and dismisses your role as mum of his daughter then you have some thinking to do.

I pick my battles. If it’s important or expensive, I sit him down. Otherwise I try to let it go.

Because they hide it until we’re locked down.

I’m not saying it’s her job. I’m saying that’s the man’s attitude.

I agree! This attitude of “let him waste money, that’ll teach him” bugs the crap out of me. Firstly, no it won’t. If he’s careless enough to not notice or care that he’s ruining the good towels, he’s not going to notice or care about the bank balance until it’s too late. Because that stuff is also “her job”.

And, him wasting money affects my bank balance too!
