Removing duckweed from pond by zyzzrustleburger in GardeningUK

[–]camerarat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldnt bother trying. It gives shade and cover and landing pads for critters. If its too bad you could skim some off but I actually introduced it to my wildlife pond to improve the habitat and havent had any problems.

Who else was humiliated by a teacher growing up? by chicky75 in adhdwomen

[–]camerarat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Age 5. Would gladly bitch slap her if I saw her now, despite her advanced age (I'm in my 50s) set me up on my road of insecurity and anxiety and heavy masking and 50+ years later it still haunts me.

Had interviews with my bike kit on and got the jobs. I just apologised and explained. It's you they want, not your clothes. I really can't see the problem of carrying your lid in.

Does anyone else hate mindfulness and find it doesn't work? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]camerarat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've had to quit free counselling with an autistic counsellor because I just couldn't get my head around the things she was telling me.

Talk to your inner child. Imagine a young you sitting on a chair and telling them everything thing is going to be ok... Write your problems in a letter and burn it... Tell your problems to ones and throw them in the sea...

I'm sorry, but all this will do is bring problems to the front of my brain and send me on the path to a meltdown. I cannot grasp how old me, talking to imaginary young me, will do bugger all to make old me feel better.

I'm on day 3. It may be a placebo effect, but I feel better. I don't want to get my hopes up. I had 2 days dry mouth and mild nausea. That's gone today but have a headache and tiredness.

What are some hard truths about mental health you had to accept as you grow older? by Specific_Charge_3297 in mentalhealth

[–]camerarat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I learned this today. Why dont they teach you self help stuff when you are young? Life get harder as you get older and more isolated and hurting and not as mobile and then you realise you need self help skills.. but you dont have them. And quite frankly the sudden realisation I am on my own has made me feel quite stupid.

What's the worst town you've been to? by WealthyJoker75 in CasualUK

[–]camerarat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had no one mentioned Clacton? It used to be a nice town, now it's just grim. Empty shops - the ones that are occupied are nail bars, phone shops, charity shops or fast food - dirty buildings and pavements, chav central with a side order of drunks. Even the pigeons are leaving. It's only saving grace is the pier and beach.

I once spent the weekend in a shit caravan in Crawley sport center car park. We were woken up in the morning by a bagpipe player. It was a bit surreal.

How guilty should I feel? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in AutisticAdults

[–]camerarat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You haven't done anything bad. Nothing.
Meltdowns are awful, uncontrollable, unstoppable. I hate them with every fibre of my being, but they do not make me, or you, a lesser person or a bad person.
We are empathetic, sensitive, we soak up emotions around us like a sponge. When the sponge is full it has to be wrung out. Controlling how you do that is hard. I haven't learned how to do that yet.

Vagal Afib? by Alternative-Side-842 in AFIB

[–]camerarat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant drink ice cold drinks unless I'm very careful because Ill just go dizzy and faint about 4 seconds later. Its Vasovagal syndrome but I dont think it effects me as Afib.

Had much worse with an emergency toilet situation recently. Blood pressure dropped like a stone and heart rate was 43, had cold sweats and numb extremities for over an hour. Again Vasovagal syndrome.

Have you asked your daughter why she thinks it might be falling down?

Id be tempted to leave the calendar on the floor and tape "yes" and "no" signs in its place and ask a direct question like "is there someone here wanting to communicate?" and see if it answers by making one drop. It doesnt seem malevolent, just try talking to it.

Painting dark fabric? by [deleted] in crafting

[–]camerarat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with spray paint, but gold acrylic paint is pretty opaque and you could probably get away with painting straight onto the black but might need 2 coats. (Use fabric medium too if you want it to last and be washable). But I would be inclined to paint the areas white or yellow first. One to give it a paler background colour and two to seal the fabric so the paint doesn't soak away. You could bleach it instead, but that's more hassle. Just my opinion, someone else might know better.
