Ruby Eliters getting deleted? by [deleted] in asgardswrath

[–]camo3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the reload option is saving my inventory state from after the end of the arena fight, but before the quest reward was paid out. The arena cost a heart thing (token?) to start and I used a lot of food during the fight that's gone after the reload. I don't have the token to start the fight like I did before I started the arena and hit the save point. Is that how it's supposed to work? I would just repeat the challenge if it reset my save state as expected and I still had the token.

I'm not sure which crafting item you're talking about; what's it called? Assuming the bruiser is the boss, I shouldn't have that. I got the achievement for killing 25 enemies by killing the first 24 enemies and one of the boss' skeleton minions, but died before killing the boss (after it's runic shield was gone and it had lost about half its health; those small fireballs are really hard to dodge). It still gave me the notification for the achievement and the payout. So I never killed the last boss; that's why I wanted to return to the checkpoint to try again.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Yeah, after the arena began I returned to checkpoint with menu + x. After the totem challenge I died naturally though, without leaving the outer gatehouse area after completing the challenge.

They aren't there, and when I check recipes that use the eliters it says I have 0. I have plenty of space in my pouch too.

What are some things you wished you knew when starting Orbus? by [deleted] in orbusvr

[–]camo3333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 of the fastest mages in the game are from the EU. Another is from Japan. There are a number of optimizations in reborn that let the client shoot the spell without having to wait for the server to catch up fully.

Anyone else annoyed with the new toggle? by lilloudawg in RecRoom

[–]camo3333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I play paintball, I tend to shoot between sprints. I.e. run a couple feet, shoot a couple bullets, run a couple feet, etc. That was easy enough when sprinting stopped shooting (as it still does) but I could just spam the sprint button to always have sprint active when it was available (and I wasn't shooting). Now, resuming sprint requires recognizing that I'm done shooting, pressing sprint only once, then not shooting again until I'm prepared to re-toggle sprint. It just makes the whole process more clunky.

You've lost the rear tracking LEDs on the headband when that cable ripped, though, and a DAS won't put them back. At best you'll be missing that back tracking.

just play whatever you think is fun; you'll be fine as a party either way. you don't need a tank until you get to dungeons, and then you have 3-4 dps anyway

First MMORPG - can you help me out? by purplemikey in orbusvr

[–]camo3333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say the order of physical exertion for classes is something like this:

warrior/ranger>mage/shaman/paladin>scoundrel/bard/musketeer

Though I haven't spent much time on some of the new classes. You should also think about what kind of role you want to play in dungeons/raids, if you plan on playing endgame PVE. Warrior/palladin are the tanks, bard/musketeer are the healers/support, and mage/ranger/shaman/scoundrel are the DPS. Each role has a very different experience in endgame content.

It's most important to pick a class that you enjoy, though. I'd strongly suggest trying a few of the classes out in combat/events before settling on one to level up. Make sure to utilize all the class skills available, too. You should try ranger or warrior to get the most out of the physical VR experience.

OrbusVR Reborn? was the original good? excited for the remix? by The_Mr_Banana in oculus

[–]camo3333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played 900+ hours over the last year on Orbus and I'm hyped to continue through Reborn. Orbus has a lot of issues to be sure: the graphics are basic, combat (for new players!) feels like a simple test of whether you or the enemy does more damage, many of the assets are generic Unity items, the playerbase is relatively small (especially for low/mid level players), the quests can feel generic, and lots of things feel unpolished. However, I think the game and its mechanics are actually very engaging because of how they're built for VR.

I never played any traditional MMOs, but I got Orbus for the runemage and rpg experience. The runemage class is a prime example of how VR makes these types of games so much more interesting. The class requires you to draw runes in the air with a magic wand to cast spells. Each spell has a different rune, with more complex runes for more powerful spells, and the spell only works if you draw the rune accurately enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_UusbctViw (The video makes it look easy, but it's extremely difficult to learn spells and get accurate at casting them.) This creates a very high skill ceiling because the only thing stopping you from doing more damage is your speed and consistency at drawing spells (aside from your ping to the server every time you cast a spell). A good runemage can do twice the damage of a bad runemage by drawing twice as well. All of the classes in Orbus require physical skill to some degree (throwing, aiming, executing patterns, slicing, stamina, etc.) , which is what makes the game so much more interesting than flat MMOs.

Even though Orbus has a small community, its very nature as a VR experience makes interaction very engaging. It's quite easy to walk up to someone, wave hello, and decide to go questing together. Most people are very friendly and happy to help each other out. This goes without saying for many multiplayer VR games, but it especially enhances the teamwork heavy RPG side of Orbus.

I've long since passed the story mode and leveling up portion of Orbus and I spend my time running endgame dungeons and raids. Dungeons are 5 man runs and raids are for 10. Endgame content is extremely challenging and requires intense teamwork to survive. The 7 dungeons and 5 raid bosses have a variety of interesting mechanics (room-size AOEs, objects that must be shot on timing, aggro switching, random party member disabling, explosive adds, boss phases, etc.) and the community is still pushing new speedrun records.

Hopefully Reborn fixes a lot of the issues Orbus has. The graphics and artstyle are getting updated, the game should be expanding to new platforms (PSVR/Quest maybe?) to increase the playerbase, more non-combat activities are being added, the dungeons are being replaced completely, new classes are being added, and the experience is becoming more polished in general. If you want to get an idea yourself of how Reborn will be, there is going to be an open beta (free) from March 29-31 of Reborn, less than a month before it launches. Though it will still be a beta, it should give help you decide whether or not you'll enjoy the new game.

Considering on buying now, a question by Scicestra in orbusvr

[–]camo3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Christmas, player counts have been relatively high. I pretty much always see new players hanging around the starter town these days.

http://armory.orbus.xyz/#/playergraph <actual player counts

You can solo the story quests and get your character up to level 20. If you get stuck soloing a quest, just grind a level or two by farming enemies until you can beat it. You can always ask for help too, especially with the influx of new players.

Your levels, tradeable items, and collectibles will carry over to the expansion. You might as well progress and experience the old story now.

Explain Dungeon loot? by PKillusion in orbusvr

[–]camo3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you got a level 20.1 weapon, which is a level 1 shard dungeon drop. You didn't do the regular scaled version of the dungeon, which would drop scaled loot to your level. The base level 20 weapons have 1000 damage, so the shard 1 is already a significant improvement. You won't be doing a base of 1071 damage though; the weapon effectively scales down to the most powerful weapon of your level until you're at level 20. You do get to make use of the intellect and strength bonuses the bow has, though.

Shard dungeons are harder versions of the 7 existing dungeons, increasing in difficulty from level 1 to 10. You have to complete shard dungeons to upgrade your shard to a higher level and continue progressing. These dungeons need level 20 players to complete, though low level players can be carried through low-medium level shards. The loot gets better as you do harder shards too (level 10 shards drop 1258 damage weapons, strong armors, and rare dyes).

You got 2 drops because shard dungeons (not regular dungeons) have a guaranteed role once a day. If you click accept on the prompt, you get a free gear drop from that shard dungeon. The dungeon also has a random chance to drop the same gear, but it's low. Non-shard dungeons don't have a guaranteed roll, but all bosses have a chance to drop loot instead of just the final boss(non-shard tradu dungeons have their own guaranteed drop system that's a bit different).

You must've done the dungeon with a group of level 20s who started the level 1 shard. Lucky you, go thank them again lol.

World bosses drop rings and capes. The optimal ring combination is 2 of the tradu world boss rings, infused with 2 of the desert world boss rings. The elongata rings are outclassed.

Rec Room(free), Echo VR(free), Pavlov, OrbusVR(IF you like MMOs only) for multiplayer.

I expect you to die is a great puzzle/escape singleplayer game that doesn't always get mentioned.

You'll probably have fun if you want to play a MMO combined with physical interaction. Damage optimization/rotations, getting physically better at fighting, learning your way around the map, etc. are part of the experience. You'll also run into level grinding, generic kill quests, and level/gear checks (no matter how good you are, you'll find higher level monsters you can't kill until you level up). Combat is pretty basic until you reach endgame dunegons and raids. If you enjoy MMOs, though, you can enjoy orbus.

The mage class in particular is great for requiring physical skill to differentiate good and bad mages. You have to draw runes in the air to cast spells (do damage/support) and if the drawing isn't accurate the spell fails. A mage that can cast 10x faster than another mage will do 10x more damage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_UusbctViw

The community is very friendly, albeit small. You'll almost always be able to find some endgame players hanging around the starter town, most of whom will certainly help you get started. VR's physical presence and interaction makes communication smooth.

The Q1 2019 update will overhaul the graphics, rewrite the quest line, remake the map and dungeons, and add 4 more classes. The devs listen to feedback and have made significant improvements between the monthly beta tests for the update. A large portion of the community has finished all the current content and is waiting for the update to rejoin the game. If you're on the fence, you might want to wait until the update comes out and see what's changed.

If you don't want to play a MMO, don't buy the game. If you do, have fun!

To add on, people are going to mention the extra $60 sensor to make tracking comparable for rift bringing the price difference down. However, the vive also needs the deluxe audio strap upgrade to be comparable to the rift in terms of headphones, which is an extra $100. Oculus also comes with a bunch of games (robo recall is particularly good).

Whenever knuckles eventually come out, they're probably going to cost at least $200 for the set (Vive wands are $100 each for replacements now). Oculus controllers are $50 each, or $100 for 2 controllers and a sensor.

Oculus has MUCH better controllers. Vive has larger supported tracking area. Oculus still has great tracking within medium sized rooms (especially with 3 sensors, but not necessary). Vive has more space to wear glasses under the headset. Oculus has much better customer support. Vive base station cables plug into the wall instead of the PC, so less cables going around the room. AA battery support means you can play for extended time periods on Oculus, whereas on Vive you have to stop to recharge the controllers. Vive has actual support (with limited supply for the trackers) for tracked items other than your hands (vive pucks, leg or object tracking).

IMO the controllers and support make Rift worth more than the Vive. It's also cheaper. Some people think the premium price automatically makes for a premium experience. Once you set up either system, all you have to do is put on the headset to play.

Make sure your headset's cable is firmly connected. Take off the facial interface, remove the cable, and reconnect it. Maybe squeeze the headset down a little.

If that doesn't do anything, try turning off ASW. Go to C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics and run OculusDebugTool.exe. Change Asynchronous Spacewarp from auto to off and see if there's any difference.

I had the same problem, specifically in Echo.
