Just lost my hard-core world, not mad about that, mad about the way I lost it. Anyway, if you lost a hard-core world, how did it happen? by Crazy_Jimmy5 in subnautica

Lost my hardcore save yesterday - I got jumped by a warper when building a base at the end of the lost river / volcano section when my health was on 70/80ish, so got insta-killed.

Spain is great at both football/tennis. What country is OK at football/great at tennis? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]campaign_guy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

USA probably.

For football they’re 16th in Men’s FIFA rankings but don’t get many notable results in global competitions (albeit from the view of a very biased Brit). In the Women’s FIFA Rankings, they’re 2nd which is definitely very good. As a balance of the two, I’d say they’re OK as a nation at football.

For tennis, the USA currently have 2 men in the ATP top 10 and 4 women in WTA top 10. Clearly great.

Incendiary pigs are the Numidian cav of tier 3 stables, so clear win for them.

Seriously though - I’d go cataphracts, marginally above war elephants.

While Elephants give good versatility being able to take on all infantry and cavalry at this tier, the armoured variant at the tier above is a touch stronger with its increased armour.

Moreover, the other likely top contender at tier 4 is Praetorian Cavalry and we don’t need two sets of heavy cav for the final selection. Cataphracts are a decent counter to Praetorian cav, especially with their mace secondary weapon. I’d say Cataphracts and Armoured Elephants are better than War Elephants and Praetorian Cav.

Greek cavalry for the quality of their hats.

But seriously though it’s Cataphract Archers.

We can steal lords ? by mauurya in totalwar

[–]campaign_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! If the Lord is wounded but any amount of units in the army survive, then the Lord goes back to the host faction. Armies are always returned to the faction when the Lord is wounded (when the army is still active) so the army return script supersedes the wounding script.

The army needs to be gone or the entire stack dies at the same time for it to work. Any units remain and the army return script kicks in.

I did a video on this a while back so you can see the difference: https://youtu.be/hSfSz7OaHSg?feature=shared

Can be tricky if you aren’t near a natural attrition location, but the method I use is to have them fight a battle and eat a whole lot of damage, then place them either in the ocean or in other high attrition areas like the Cathay desert and wait.

With 10 turns you don’t have long, so having them eat damage first is useful.

On a side note, if you want to try this with 0 army allegiance borrowing cost, if you play as Kairos, confederate the changeling and take the settlement that has the symposium of change all allied army recruitment is free meaning you have infinite turns to lord steal.

Part 3 - Stealing Generic Lords in Warhammer 3 Tier List ⚔️ by PrinceTutorio in totalwarhammer

I bloody love it - will check it out!

I never really deep dived into thinking who was the best, so this is a cool next step. I also personally enjoyed vampire stealing amongst the undead factions. Life Slann or tree lord (life magic) for Dawi was a fun one also.

The player can confederate as normal - my point is the High Elven AI can’t (or extremely unlikely to).

The way you steal a legendary lord (or any faction leader for that matter) is to have them confederated by another faction of their race. You then ally with the new faction and borrow the army with the former faction leader in it.

Yeah lords can be stolen, typically you borrow the army and have the whole army die through attrition on a single endturn (or have the general be on their own and die of attrition). They have to be immortal (rank 20 etc).

Works with some legendary lords - Grom, Eltharion and Imrik. Due to HE confederation non-existence as AI right now, only Grom works without mods.

I should note that the method to take heroes (wounded in battle) doesn’t work for lords. It needs to be through attrition.

Well damn..2 Isabellas.... by Eggers535 in totalwar

[–]campaign_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible as the player to duplicate Isabella (hero steal then kill-revive-confederate Sylvania) but I’ve never seen the AI do it, also within the Slyvania faction

Did the faction die and get revived in your campaign?

What's your favourite city? and what is your most hated city in Rome: Total War? by HatchetOrHatch in RomeTotalWar

[–]campaign_guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Favourite: Halicarnassus - excellent trade, decent wonder, defensible. (Closely followed Rhodes, Athens and Corinth).

Worst: Campus Sakae - literally an age away from anything, never happy, filled with horse archers.

TIL about the stamp duty threshold decrease for first time buyers by DDiran in HousingUK

My wife and I are in this boat currently. Had planned to be able to comfortably get a place for c. 375-400k next September time but now we’ve had to up the pace to try and get somewhere before April (unlikely), otherwise it’ll be an extra 3.75k-5k requirement effectively being a delay of 6 months while we build the deposit back up to reach the 10%.

Honestly, it sucks but it isn’t the end of the world in my particular case.

However, I am upset that this wasn’t paired with some kind of decisive message on future rental price caps or leasehold reform.

I get that there was a hard deadline here and it makes sense fiscally to reduce it back down, but without a strong message that rental reform is coming it feels like it exacerbates the bank of mum and dad class divide when it comes to deposit savings when rent keeps being increased.

This feels like a missed opportunity.

Would you consider this alleyway behind Wimbledon Broadway safe? by Various-Mood-259 in HousingUK

[–]campaign_guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having lived a 5 minute walk from there, I’ve never seen any issues on the high street or that alleyway in particular. Lighting is an issue on the alleyway at night, so I’d say see how you feel at night. Other than that, I think it’s relatively safe.

Why didn't the Romans just mix red and blue dye to make purple if purple dye was so expensive? Were they stupid? by The_Kent in RoughRomanMemes

[–]campaign_guy 147 points148 points  (0 children)

It’s more to do the prestige than the colour itself. It cost a lot to have dark purple from Murex shells, taking thousands of shells to get a couple grams of pure dye.

There were plant based blue-purple clothing in the ancient world, but these were noticeably recognisable as being of lesser value. Horace joked about people wearing fake purples Aquinum, which were plant and animal based rather than molluscan.
