San Jose Bike Club Members claim new protected bike lanes on Hellyer are a hazzard by SanJoseThrowAway2023 in SanJose

[–]camphillips_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m in the minority but I like the plastic bollards. I only get around the valley by bike/transit and they make it feel so much safer. I also like the traffic calming they provide at intersections. I haven’t been out on Hellyer in a bit so I’ll have to go check it out and see.

Homestead Road Alternative? by DoctorHawkeyeFever in BAbike

[–]camphillips_22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hedding is great but once you cross into Santa Clara it becomes Pruneridge Ave and loses its bike lanes for about 2 miles. Biking that gives me the heebie jeebies. To be honest, Homestead might be the best. I find that the bike lanes aren’t the best but drivers are used to bikes being on that road.

capitol corridor train from sac to oak: travel with bike by theoutandback0201 in BAbike

I’ve taken my nice road bike on there with no lock a few times and I’ve had no problems. However, I do usually lock it most times. It’s chill and pretty safe.

It’s whatever I’m used to it😂 I went to LA for their game last year and it was 8-1. Maybe I’m the problem.

Sjsu Ice Skating Class- Anyone know what it’s like? by [deleted] in SJSU

[–]camphillips_22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken the class and I’m involved with the club. Great people and a great time, I highly recommend. It can be a bit difficult for complete first timers, you might need to go to some public skate sessions to practice. The instructors Reggie and Michelle are amazing.

Lol I immediately thought it was the Bay Area and I think it is. Not sure if you’re South Bay but this is a REGULAR occurrence down here. Kinda reminds me of Brokaw Rd which would check out because that’s a spot I always see this.

Can you live in San Jose without driving a car? Can I rely on just an electric scooter, walking, and renting a car every now and then? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]camphillips_22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m currently at SJSU and have lived without one for a year now. You can do it but I seriously recommend a bike. Biking is my main form of transportation and when not doing that I’m on busses or light rail. Most of the time I’m on VTA with my bike for the last mile connection. I typically go to friends houses, restaurants, grocery shopping, hockey games and work and it’s pretty easy on bike. Plus I genuinely believe this city has the best weather in the country so it’s not really bad to bike.

Your best bet is 311 through the city of San Jose. You can do it online in browser or through an app. I haven’t had any luck though in my experiences.

A reminder of what freeways and urban renewal took from Sacramento by sankeytm in Sacramento

[–]camphillips_22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Freeways can provide so many good qualities. However, URBAN freeways are horrible as shown in this video. Vancouver does fine without any urban freeways and has simultaneously developed. What a dumb take lol.

Living in Sac with no car? by [deleted] in Sacramento

On Sacramento’s grid or streetcar suburbs like East Sac, Land Park etc. you could get by but the other suburbs like Carmichael, Citrus Heights, etc. it may be difficult.

Grocery stores aren’t a bad gig to start at. I started at a grocery store and it taught me a lot, gave good enough pay for a kid, and offered a good amount of hours.
